The SEC mandate on disclosure of cybersecurity risks may be falling short of its intended purpose, with some companies struggling to provide clear information to investors and regulators. Part of the confusion may arise from companies conflating the word 'risks' with 'incidents' -- one referring to potential exposures while the other referring to past occurrences. Additional guidance from the SEC is crucial in clarifying these distinctions.
