Cycle time is still a challenge in legacy Fabs - Rick Glasmann We recently completed a Cycle Time Reduction program with a US based client. Reflecting on this latest experience, here is my perspective. Fab cycle time reduction involves balancing complexity, improving tool productivity, and adopting advanced manufacturing techniques. Shorter cycle times benefit semiconductor device makers by enabling faster innovation and volume delivery. The trick is to reduce cycle time while keeping output volumes intact or even increase them at the same time. Modern Fabs take strategies to optimize their processes and achieve shorter cycle times like advanced equipment and automation, automated material delivery, advanced process simplification, and advanced lithography techniques. Legacy Fabs are typically more cash constrained and therefor are forced to embark on a cheaper 'journey' to achieve the same results. Here's an example of such a journey.   Our engagement kicked off with a short ORE™ Study to assess the cycle time drivers. ORE™ measures the effectiveness of your factory’s tools, personnel, systems and organization and determines your ultimate throughput, cycle time and cost opportunities. Based upon this analysis, we developed an implementation strategy leveraging our experience, knowledge and proven results. Some strategies and tactics we deployed included: 1. Parallel Processing 2. Reducing Non-Value-Added Time 3. Predictive Maintenance 4. Automating Cycle Time Tracking and Analysis 5. Enhancing their Continuous Improvement Culture   The results in the chart below speak for themselves. Are you fighting cycle time issues too? Contact Rick Glasmann directly.
