Aspects of 'de la Torre brothers: Upward Mobility' take on the complex history of museums and the art of collecting. Hear how the artists weave themes of appropriation, history, and cultural heritage into the exhibition, which features Marion McNay's furniture and other symbols from our history. The brothers also discuss the significance of dedicating the exhibition to San Antonio native and Chicano art scholar, Tomás Ybarra Frausto. Appraisers often rely on private sales data from dealers, highlighting the crucial role art dealers play in the art market. 🎨🌍 Dive into the pivotal role of art dealers in shaping the transatlantic art market from the late 19th to early 20th centuries! In an often overlooked perspective of the art market's history this new publication, "Money in the Air: Art Dealers and the Making of a Transatlantic Market, 1880–1930," shows how these figures not only influenced art collections but also significantly impacted the foundations of major American art museums. #ArtHistory #ArtMarket #ArtDealers
Congrats to editors Gail Feigenbaum, Sandra van Ginhoven, and Edward Sterrett, on the publication of “Money in the Air: Art Dealers and the Making of a Transatlantic Market, 1880–1930”. This volume explores the often-overlooked role of art dealers in creating a transatlantic art market in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It offers new perspectives on the development of art collections that formed the core of American art museums, such as the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Frick Collection. #ArtHistory #Scholarship #Collecting

My latest article for #TheArtNewspaper on a play by activist investors to shutter a museum and potentially liquidate its collection all in the name of better shareholder returns. It may looks like an art museum but through the eyes of Hong Kong-based #OasisManagement the Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art, which houses one of the most impressive collections of 20th Century Western art in Japan and one of only four #RothkoRooms in the world (along with Contemporary Japanese art), is little more than an underperforming capital asset that needs to be sold off and downsized or shut down. As part of this move the museum's entire collection has been listed with a book value thatis far below the amount the museum sold a single work by Barnett Newman in 2013 ... Known as #vultureinvestors, #OasisManagement has a track record of upending companies and ousting board members and CEOs to get their way. Despite the mayor of Sakura City and the Governor of Chiba prefecture publilcy putting their support behind a petition it was up to a concerned local to start one - if you inclined here's the link ->https://chng.it/8gmYtmRmSn #profitsoverpeople #corporatesocialresponsibility
The Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum Art, operated by the chemical manufacturer DIC and home to one of world's only four Rothko rooms, may have to downsize or close for good https://ow.ly/e6bF50Teznh

AN AMAZING VIDEO ABOUT ART CONSERVATION, the career that I chose in the 1980s for the reasons shown and explained in the video (never have I regretted that choice). It illustrates why conservators can be valuable resources in studies of age, attribution, and authenticity, because they spend years studying the chemistry, degradation, and preservation of cultural property - and - years looking very closely at objects. But - and this is important - do not expect most conservators to say whether an object is authentic or inauthentic, misattributed or correctly attributed, old or period, because codes of ethics and guidelines for practice for conservators require a sound basis for such opinions (not mere speculation), and offering such opinions can open them to liability. Rather, listen closely for what conservators say or don’t say about authenticity, attribution, and age; for example, “wouldn’t it be interesting to have this object examined in a laboratory” or “You might ask [so and so] to look at this.” That might be what they are able to say, that you should hear. Hope this helps.
So much work goes into an exhibition before we open our doors. For months, our conservators, curators, and beyond have been busy preparing works for our big fall exhibition “Georgia O’Keeffe and Henry Moore," which features more than 150 works and recreations of each artist's studio. Organized by The San Diego Museum of Art, the exhibition is an unprecedented collaboration with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and the Henry Moore Foundation. 🗓️ Member preview begins October 9 before the exhibition opens to the public on October 13—reserve your timed-entry tickets now! http://ms.spr.ly/6044mtYAy

📝 How to Cite a Physical Location or Event in MLA Style 🌍 Did you know you can cite real-world places and events in MLA format too? Whether it’s a historic site, an art exhibit, or a concert, MLA has you covered! Here's how to do it: Format: Description or Title of Event. Title of Container, Date of Event, Location. 👉 Example: Van Gogh Art Exhibit. The Met Museum, 10 Aug. 2024, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City. Keep in mind: Use italics for the container (e.g., museum, venue). Include the full date and location details. 🎯 Pro Tip: If it’s part of a larger event, include that in your citation as the container! #MLAStyle #CitingSources #AcademicTips #MLAFormat

According to UNESCO intangible cultural heritage are the traditions or living expressions inherited from our ancestors and passed on to our descendants, among others the knowledge and skills to produce traditional crafts. All over the world capable hands replicate movements that have developed during centuries and they create traditional objects as well as innovative elements. Museums are the perfect place to learn about the past, the lace schools such us the Il Giardino dei Punti in Milan or workshops like UnPizzo in Cantu are the perfect place to meet women that are innovating today. In all our journeys the encounter with those who preserve and pass down intangible cultural heritage is central. People are our main destination.
Today is International Museum Day and we celebrate it from the Museo del Merletto (Lace Museum) in #Burano, Venice, where to discover this ancient and fascinating art. We have dedicated one of our tours to lace and embroidery, find out more in the comments. #discoverItaly #internationalmuseumday
