Here are two hires that caught my attention recently and why we should all consider what they represent to the streaming, media and digital entertainment world Bradley Eliot moving from Multichoice to International Media Investments (IMI), a leading privately owned media investment group. Bradley Most recently served as the Group Chief Information Officer of the MultiChoice Group, Africa’s leading entertainment company. Fabio Gallo is also entering the investment space by taking the role of Managing Director at Aspire Software, the operating arm of Valsoft Corporation, one of the fastest-growing private equity companies in the world. Fabio will lead the broadcast and media vertical, starting by overseeing two innovative companies: VSN and Woody Technologies. Here's why this caught my attention. In my belief, the "tough times" in the broadcast sector are also representative of new frontiers of opportunity. The chance to address some of the anomalies that are the legacy of how broadcast has always been, and embrace new ways of working, new technologies, new audience behaviours and most of all make the combination of these things profitable, and the broadcast sector needs to see more healthy bottom lines around the world The senior hiring assignments that I work on always feature the mandate for the candidates to understand how the future of media will work. Clients want people with an appetite for the art of the possible when it comes to how to blend emerging formats and technologies. Their leadership abilities have to demonstrate their forward-facing ability in the market as well as their experience to spot and blossom good investments I want to wish Bradley and Fabio my personal congratulations, as well as highlight how their appointments represent the awareness of the investment community that a new era is emerging in media and entertainment. Streaming as we know it is only the tip of the iceberg; there are a host of technologies and businesses springing up that represent the changing face of how the whole D2C ecosystem is changing quickly. The impending listing on Nasdaq of allrites who are pioneering CaaS (content as a service) under Riaz Mehta is one such example of a balance sheet changing technology finding its time to shine. I think Rani R. Raad, CEO at International Media Investments said it best in one of his press interviews when asked about Bradleys appointment, “At IMI, we recognise that the media landscape is constantly evolving, and staying ahead of the curve requires a laser focus on technology.
