We've all heard about the prevalence of burnout in nursing staff, Diwas Kc and Donald Lee suggest a new perspective that alleviates this AND drives more revenue for healthcare systems: "increasing a single nurse’s workload by just one patient creates a 17% service slowdown for all other patients under that nurse’s care. Looking at the data another way, having one additional nurse on duty during the busiest shift (typically between 7am and 7pm) speeds up emergency department work and frees up capacity to treat more patients....... this productivity gain could equate to a net increase of $470,000 per 10,000 patient visits—and savings to the tune of $160,000 in lost earnings for the same number of patients as wait times are reduced." Interesting debate about the requirement of physician oversight of advanced practice nurses. How in God’s name are we going to solve the shortage of providers in rural communities if key stakeholders remain entrenched in archaic thinking? Time for a significant reality check here.

Four Corpus Christi Medical Center nurses protested early Thursday morning to demand safer staffing, improved nurse retention, patient protection, and guaranteed break reliefs. The protest was part of the National Nurses United's National Day of Action, with similar rallies nationwide. Nurses raised concerns over AI technology in healthcare, emphasizing its potential risks if used to cut costs rather than enhance patient care. They highlighted chronic staff shortages, heavy workloads, and inadequate breaks, jeopardizing patient safety. While the hospital claimed staffing levels are safe, the nurses stressed the need for systemic changes to protect patients and ensure quality care. . . . . . #NursesUnite #SafeStaffingNow #NurseSolidarity #PatientCareMatters #HealthcareHeroes #UnionNursePower #AIinHealthcare #StaffRetention #NursesProtest #HealthcareAdvocacy #CorpusChristiNurses #BreakReliefForNurses #ProtectPatients #NationalDayOfAction #NursesOnTheFrontline #SportsRadioCC #KSIX

This is a result of a poor outdated policy design which forces primary care to work inefficiently to recieve funding . Is it any wonder that it is hard to attract nurses to Primary Care if this is the role they are doing? #primarycarenurses #topofscope Karen Booth A new study has found that four out of five GP nurses are undertaking long lists of non-clinical administration work, including manning the front desk, while hospital nurses and doctors are facing growing violence. A national survey, undertaken by the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association, found that 80% of registered and enrolled primary care nurses, with an average of 21 years’ experience, were buried in paperwork rather than vital clinical work such as women’s health assessments, diabetes and arthritis education. The survey found that almost 70% of nurses in GP clinics were doing recalls or patient appointment reminders, 32% were doing stock management and ordering, and 16% were working the front desk.
