Could you invite your MP to a church service? This is not to preach at them, nor to give them a ‘shopping list’! It is an opportunity to listen to their story of why they are serving as an MP, their motivations and their concerns. A meaningful relationship develops with good listening. JPIT are creating a network of congregations that are committed to developing a meaningful relationship with their MP, with a range of resources to support your church following the election. Having been a Member of the European Parliament ( and currently working for a Westminster MP), I know how busy serving politicians are. We need to be sensitive to the simple truth that Sunday is often the only day many MPs get to be with their families. So please make an invitation for a special meeting on a Friday or during the recess. Don’t make them feel obliged to turn up at 11.00 on a Sunday morning.

In 2000’s the Westminster system became Party based controlled by Whips. When the British constitution was “modernised” the links between an MP and their constituents we’re severed. They are no longer representatives of their constituents, control and influence comes from the top down.
