During the last election many Native American people wanted to vote but could not do so. A number of reservations, especially the smaller ones operate on an allotment or assignment basis, and the residents often don’t have a “real” street address. The mail goes to general delivery, or into community like set of mail boxes marked with the name of the resident as the homes don’t have an address. Because of this, voting laws prevented the residents of the reservations from being able to register to vote and the residents from being sent a mail in ballot. The result is that there is a significantly and disproportionately lower number of indigenous voters than census numbers indicate. How ironic that the true founders of this land are precluded from casting a vote to support their candidate to lead this country.
The Native vote holds power. Yet, time and time again, Native American communities face unique and unreasonable obstacles in voting. NARF is working to amplify the voices of Native advocates and tribal leaders as they effect change and secure voting rights for future generations. Our voices deserve to be heard and an empowered Native vote is essential to the promise of America. Today we released the second installment of our “Native Voices, Native Vote” video series. Hear powerful stories from Native voters in Arizona about how they continue to fight for their voting rights. JOIN us as we amplify the voices of our communities throughout this election year! Share these stories. Learn how YOU can help drive change. Follow, Donate, and Join us at vote.NARF.org. #CountOurVotes #NativesVote2024

In addition to providing contact from a trusted messenger, these nonprofits can engage in deeper discussions that help break down political alienation. 📢 We’re proud to announce the launch of All by April, a nonpartisan campaign asking funders & donors to move quickly in 2024 to get election-related funding out the door. 501(c)3 organizations connect voters to the ballot box and protect the integrity of our election system. They reduce barriers to voting, combat misinformation, help recruit poll workers, and much more. ⌛️ But year after year we’ve heard the same thing from nonprofits who support the election process: “the money came too late.” ⏰ We know early funding is crucial to their work, especially for smaller grassroots organizations and those based in communities of color. When funds are received early in the year, nonprofits can maximize their efforts and: — Plan confidently — Hire and train staff — Develop better messaging and tactics — Lock-in lower-cost rates for many expenses — Use primary election process to identify concerns that need to be addressed ahead of November ➡️ Join us and make the pledge to provide early support, move election funds faster wherever possible, and encourage your networks to do the same. Our democracy will be stronger for it! AllByApril.org
