Last week, our CEO Eddy and Technical Consultant Valery were invited to the Friends of Figma Sydney event held on April 18, 2024. We were delighted to hear an impactful speech from our partner, Charbel Zeaiter - Founder of Velvet Onion. We’re working on several mind-blowing technology projects. At the event, Charbel spoke about AI & Future of Design - offering a refreshing perspective that AI, contrary to common fears, is creating more kinds of opportunities and jobs in the design industry and also the tech industry. In the past, there were only some basic roles in this field like Graphic Designer and Web Designer. Nowadays, the advent of AI has introduced a plethora of new job titles, such as Prompt Engineer and Dall-E Artist, while simultaneously maintaining the relevance of traditional roles. Besides, Charbel also did a bit of interactive demo of AI attempting to GENERATE a song that is PLASTIC, lacking in emotional depth, and failed to compare to songs made by real humans. That testimony showed an AI can not 100% replace humans and all deliverables of perfection need real human efforts. This perspective aligns perfectly with our philosophy at APT cause we believe AI is a powerful tool, but it's the human touch that makes the difference. Therefore, at APT, our expertly trained staff always works in harmony with AI to deliver the best possible outcome for our clients. Is your business facing any technological challenges? Figma announced their "AI" feature at their conference, ruffling many feathers. It generated crude visual design work from a prompt, making many designers uncomfortable. Interestingly, some who call Adobe evil (for training their AI on licensed images) seem "okay" with Figma doing the same, except on your own files that you didn't grant approval. Way to cherry-pick standards. 🍒 Living through decades of new tooling is part of working in digital. The constant death and rebirth of new software, learning to be flexible and not indoctrinated by specific programs—this all part of being a designer in modern society. I'm sticking to my perspective: Research and curiosity to seek the truth is most important. Knowing why you designed it and how you'd aligned people are not something a machine can replace. Investing in foundational skills that last a career lifetime. For a long time, designers with high-paying jobs in the industry had it good. For the first time, AI is bridging the gap between those who have and have-nots. Understandably, some are not happy when the playing field is being leveled. #AI & #Design #Software

What does everyone think about the Figma AI announcement? One of the most exciting aspects of design is finding creative solutions to complex problems: we sketch ideas, refine them, and sometimes discard them. Whether through collaboration or individual reflection, overcoming those moments of creative block often leads to innovative and unexpected solutions. Now, if I had an AI that could instantly generate five possible solutions, I might be tempted to take that shortcut instead of pushing through the creative struggle. However, those solutions would likely be generic and unoriginal. AI is great, but will it ever be able to create truly new solutions if it’s being trained on our previous designs? We may be setting our own barrier to how much our designs can be improved and how many other ways of designing there might be. After all, everything we know and have designed came from brainstorming and pushing through those initial blank canvases. And what about future designers? Would it even be valuable to use our imagination? Would we even know how to use it? AI for designers (or for any creative field) should be used to reduce pain points like creating dummy content or renaming frames—thanks for that, very much appreciated. Not to commodify our creative process and put productivity and quantity over innovation, creativity, and humanity. #figmaconfig #uxdesign

This year, AI is without a doubt the big trend for multinational IT companies, and Figma is no exception. The #business unveiled new AI tools for its collaborative design software at Figma Config 2024 this week. These features include interactive prototypes, online and mobile mockups, and generators for unique graphics. Figma AI is free with limited usage while it's in beta. The business has also released a number of new products, such as Figma Slides, a tool for creating presentations, and overhauled #user interfaces, including ones for developers. The #design software company had a turbulent year prior to the release of the new products. Following the collapse of Adobe's much-discussed US$20 billion purchase attempt, Figma last month revealed a tender offer that valued the business at US$12.5 billion and allowed both employees and investors to cash out. Chief product officer of Figma Yuhki Yamashita tells that AI has made it simpler for everyone to be involved in the design process. That is true for all design firms, but Figma takes a different tack by pushing the envelope with AI. “How do we lower the floor so we bring more people into the process of designing? And then, of course, how do we take the design experts that we have [and] empower them with more?” Yamashita says. The product chief says many people have “creative superpowers” they can't use because they lack design abilities. A text-based design generator in Figma AI generates a first design draft instantly. However, many design specialists have routine, manual chores that involve time and effort. Accordingly, Figma's new platform offers AI-enhanced search options for graphics and assets like button designs to help users identify visually related designs in a team's files. At the same time, AI is in “really early innings,” and over time, what people will realize is that they want a much more integrated experience. Central to this concept is interfaces, where users can experience AI in a more “native and natural and integrated way,” the exec adds. Figma is bringing its first Asia Pacific conference, Config, to Singapore next week after launching its products in San Francisco. A regional office in the city-state serves Grab, GoTo, and Sea Group. To share your startup story write us on - contact@startuprise.org #Figma #AI #Design #Software #Business #AsiaPacific

Figma AI can play a crucial role in enhancing designers’ capabilities by facilitating their work processes rather than replacing them. Figma has the potential to develop tools that streamline repetitive tasks, such as reviewing components, aligning with design systems, or taking notes. By incorporating best practices, recognizing common patterns, and offering smart suggestions, Figma can empower designers to create specifications more efficiently. This approach elevates the design process, allowing designers to focus on solving complex problems rather than getting caught up in minute details. Additionally, Figma can serve as a valuable team support tool, fostering collaboration and innovation within design teams. The goal is to create excitement and enthusiasm among designers, making the tool an integral part of their creative process rather than a source of concern.

Last week, Figma's Config event announcement about Figma AI sent the design world into a frenzy. But let's take a step back: 1. Figjam AI has been around for over a year, with features like mind map generation that haven't been particularly useful. At all. 2. The recent announcement feels more like a marketing ploy than a groundbreaking reveal. 3. They've already disabled its AI design feature that appeared to be ripping off Apple’s Weather app. If the Figma team, creators of the world's leading product design tool, are struggling with AI integration, it's clear we're all in uncharted territory. My take? Focus on process, not tools. I learned this the hard way after getting caught up in the Invision Studio hype back in 2017 (remember that "future of design" video?). Now, once worth close to Billion Dollars InVision is dead and shut down. As we navigate this new AI landscape in design, remember: different technology means different processes. We're all figuring it out together.
