Lower Elementary - Grammar Farm As our rising first graders transition to a new classroom, they will notice familiar materials from their Early Childhood classroom that are also present in the Elementary program. One of these is the Montessori Grammar Farm, which encourages children to practice building simple combinations of words and phrases, learning about the parts of speech and sentence structure. Intriguing objects pique a child's interest, as they manipulate the objects to better internalize abstract concepts. The work begins with labeling each object, animals as nouns, as seen here. As they become familiar with the function of nouns in a phrase or sentence, they can explore adjectives, like "brown horse" or "fluffy sheep." This work lays the groundwork for good communication, reading comprehension, writing, speaking, and storytelling in an approachable way for children. #grammar #literacy #partsofspeech #sentencestructure #handsonlearning #experientiallearning #focus #order #concentration #coordination #independence #confidentlearner #competentlearner #academicallyprepared #language #intrinsicmotivation #tma #montessori #privateschool #arlingtontx #arlington #texas #infant #nido #toddler #earlychildhood #preschool #kindergarten #elementary #education #nontraditional #themontessoriacademyofarlington

Early Childhood - Consonant Blends with the Moveable Alphabet The Moveable Alphabet was developed by Dr. Montessori when she realized that children had the mental capacity to analyze the sounds in words well before they could synthesize them. When children write a word with the Moveable Alphabet, they do so phonetically by analyzing the sounds. After mastering CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, students progress to consonant blends. This student is very focused while using to Moveable Alphabet to make words with the TH blend, both at the beginning and the end of words. #handsonlearning #experientiallearning #consonantblends #reading #writing #analyzesounds #order #concentration #coordination #independence #tma #montessori #privateschool #arlingtontx #arlington #texas #infant #nido #toddler #earlychildhood #preschool #kindergarten #elementary #education #privateeducation #nontraditional #themontessoriacademyofarlington

Toddler - Whisking Work There are many steps a child must remember to successfully complete the whisking work all while developing skills for future learning. Recalling and executing sequences prepares a child for academic work in language and math. The fine motor skills necessary to accomplish this task readies a child's hand for future writing. Even the way that students are taught to maneuver the whisk mimics letter formation. Finally, the child develops the ability to focus on a task, improving their concentration and preparing the mind for completing challenging academic work in the future. Beyond all of these preparations is the subliminal lesson of independence and respect for the environment that the child is receiving. Who knew a simple activity such as whisking could teach a young child so much? #prewritingskills #strengthenhands #transferring #handsonlearning #experientiallearning #finemotorskills #handeyecoordination #purposefulactivity #order #concentration #coordination #independence #intrinsicmotivation #tma #montessori #privateschool #arlingtontx #alrington #texas #infant #nido #toddler #earlychildhood #preschool #kindergarten #elementary #education #privateeducation #nontraditional #themontessoriacademofarlington

Early Childhood - Memory Game The Sandpaper Letters allow a student to understand writing before they have the fine motor skills to write. The student uses three senses, tactile, auditory, and sight, to learn the sound and formation of each letter. This student is working on an extension of the Sandpaper Letters, where he is matching the Sandpaper Letter to the corresponding letters from the Moveable Alphabet. This allows him to recognize the Sandpaper Letter, store it in his memory, and walk over to the Movable Alphabet to find the match. He is able to move his body in a purposeful way and even correct his own mistake, as seen in the video, fostering independence and self-confidence as he prepares for reading and writing. #earlyliteracy #sandpaperletters #moveablealphabet #reading #purposefulmovement #concretetoabstract #order #concentration #coordination #independence #handsonlearning #experientiallearning #purposefulactivity #tma #montessori #privateschool #arlingtontx #arlington #texas #infant #nido #toddler #earlychildhood #preschool #kindergarten #elementary #education #privateeducation #nontraditional #themontessoriacademyofarlington

TIPS FOR PARENTS When showing your child an activity, drop down to their level, and use minimal words so they focus on your hands, not your mouth. It’s also important to present from left to right, and top to bottom, to help your child develop a sense of order. This assists in preparing them for writing and reading. #tiptuesday Credit: Montessori Academy Photo Credit: K-12 DIVE #merryjourney #preschool #best #montessori #education #accra #ghana #admission #admissions2024 #montessorischool #montessorieducation #parents #students #children #word #activity #write #read #develop

A Heart-Wrenching Confession from a Fellow Teacher... I'll never forget the day a senior colleague shared a secret that left me speechless. She's an English teacher at a school where her own son is a student. The prerequisite for promotion was 5 credits, including Mathematics and English. Unfortunately, her son failed Mathematics, and as a result, he couldn't promote! She said to me “It was so embarrassing! I left my child's academics to cater for my students." Those words hit me like a ton of bricks. Teachers! Come closer Let's get real! While you’re busy nurturing your students. Don’t leave your own children behind! Your passion for teaching is commendable. But, Your own kids need you too. They need your attention, your guidance, and your love. Make time to: 🎓Assist with their homework 🎓 Read with them 🎓Ask them if they are facing challenges in any subject 🎓Prepare them for exams Remember, 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞. Let's balance our dedication. Let's ensure we nurture our own children just as much as we nurture our students. Your kids deserve the best of you too. Strive to be role models for our children, just as we are for our students. Show them that family matters just as much as our profession. #TeachersWhoParent #BalanceInLife #FamilyMatters #Teacher #Educator #Student #TheHolisticTeacher
