Did you know that nine major projects were dedicated to rebuilding Ground Zero in New York City? The once-barren 9/11 site now stands as a touching memorial, embraced by a beautiful landscape of trees, flowers, and grass. It features two acre-large pools set within the footprints of the Twin Towers and the nation's largest manmade waterfall, cascading 52,000 gallons of water per minute. Beneath the plaza lies a 70-foot underground structure housing a museum and other essential facilities. Constructing the 9/11 Memorial required 49,000 cubic yards of exceptionally tough concrete, demanding specialized equipment for this project. ETI/ACH proudly manufactured wire harnesses for the specially configured concrete pumps crucial to efficiently executing this monumental task within the limited New York City operating space. The scale of the 9/11 Memorial reflects the profound grief felt across the world on September 11, 2001, and signifies the immense effort by the Ground Zero construction crews to transform the site into a place of honor and beauty once again. ETI/ACH is grateful to have contributed our services to a memorial that embodies the enduring resilience and strength of humanity following one of history's most tragic events. With a month until the 23rd anniversary of this date, let's continue to honor and remember together, reflecting on the importance of preserving this legacy for generations to come. #911memorial #groundzero #newyorkcity #construction #concrete #manufacturing

LampLight Industries: Illuminating San Diego's Historic Streetlights and Preservation Efforts In the poignant narrative "San Diego’s Historic Streetlights" by the OB Rag, the enduring charm of San Diego's historic streetlights, spanning over a century, faces an unwarranted threat of destruction. Despite their structural integrity and potential for longevity with minor repairs, these iconic fixtures are slated for replacement by the City of San Diego, sparking community outcry. Industries stands firmly against this misguided initiative, advocating for the preservation of these cultural landmarks. The proposed demolition not only disregards the intrinsic value of the existing infrastructure but also perpetuates a cycle of wastefulness and erasure of cultural heritage. Battersea Power Station and Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings are fantastic examples of how historical clay brick buildings can be saved, repurposed, and given a new lease of life. Retrofitting with clay brick resolves the issue of creating demolition waste and allows Architects to reimagine these historical spaces to include features more relevant to our modern day, including sustainability and energy efficiency measures, which are key aspects of retrofitting old properties to achieve Net Zero emission targets. Lovely article, and so good to see John Gilbert Architects using building performance evaluation as a routine in their work - others need to follow. "If you can't measure it, you can't manage it" - the building, I'm talking about. People need a more qualitative approach for understanding their practices in and around buildings.... #buildingperformance #practicallearning #architecture #policies #climateaction
Excellent article Hattie Hartman HonFRIBA and Matt Bridgestock. John Gilbert Architects leading the way in #retrofit and #BPE.
