According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), fatal traffic crashes claimed over 7,500 pedestrians in the U.S. in 2022. In just over a 10 year span, pedestrian fatality statistics skyrocketed 77%, across the country, from 2010 – 2021. Here in Massachusetts, there was a 31.6% increase from 2021 to 2022 alone. 🚨 Pedestrian Deaths in the US Remain Alarmingly High: 📊 Despite a 5% decrease in pedestrian fatalities last year, the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reports that deaths are still 14% above pre-pandemic levels. Over 7,300 pedestrians were killed in 2023, with dangerous driving, inadequate infrastructure, and larger vehicles being significant factors. ⚠ Since 2010, pedestrian deaths have surged by 77%. GHSA emphasizes the need for improved infrastructure, safer vehicle designs, reduced speeds, and equitable traffic enforcement to reverse this trend.
