What's an un-conference when it's in town?
I hadn't heard of one until recently and I'll admit I thought it was a get together the day after a conference to debrief on the conference (just me?).
Nope, that was incorrect.
It's a meeting tactic that can be used at anytime (no pre-conference needed).
It flips the script on traditional meeting / conference / off-site formats.
There is no pre-planned:
- agenda
- speakers
- sessions
Instead it's all about:
- problem-solving
- shared learning
- open discussions
I had the pleasure of attending The Community Community Unconference last week. Expertly guided by Nikki and James.
It was a wonderful informal gathering to explore a shared interest (in this case the community world) and bounce around ideas and thoughts.
The conversations flowed freely from here to there just like the people did around the lovely co-working space (thank you Jess at Fabrik).
Ears and minds were open and it felt like a lovely way to connect with peers in a safe and inclusive space.
I can see how this technique could be amazing within businesses for breaking down silos, encouraging innovation, and resulting in some damn exciting ideas.
I gobbled up every second.
