The term “glass cliff” is a phenomenon in which a company in crisis appoints a woman to turn things around — often setting them up for failure. Some saw Boeing naming Stephanie Pope to run its commercial airplanes division in March as the latest example. Companies say they aren’t consciously doing this. But some researchers think companies in crisis sometimes turn to women because they are perceived as having the soft skills needed to navigate difficult situations. The glass cliff is also prevalent in other countries and outside the corporate world: in government, sports leagues and at universities.

This is a thought-provoking analysis. It's essential to support women in leadership roles, particularly in crisis situations, while also ensuring they are set up for success rather than failure. The 'glass cliff' phenomenon indeed needs more awareness and discussion. #GenderEquality #LeadershipChallenges #GlassCliff

There's even more research to flesh out the insidious glass cliff research, and I believe a lot of it has come from Francesca Manzi and Madeline Heilman, who had a major study in 2020 on glass ceilings and glass cliffs. Their disturbing findings include: The successful or unsuccessful performance of a female leader can significantly impact the evaluations of subsequent female candidates for leadership positions. Research indicates that the performance of one female leader can influence how others perceive female candidates in leadership roles. Positive outcomes from a female leader can enhance perceptions of competence and suitability for leadership among subsequent female candidates. Conversely, negative outcomes may lead to increased scrutiny and bias against female candidates, affecting their evaluations. PS - Men who follow "unsuccessful" male leaders do not start with this same bias against them and all future male candidates, and "unsuccessful" is not always a justified finding for women. Brutal.

I believe in equality in the work place, be it man, women or some other ethnic minority shouldn't be discussion of promotion or soft skills. The best person should be appointed to the promote their talents and strive for success, where soft skills also play an important role. To suggest that one person is responsible for Boeing quality control is a fault hood, when it fact it's is the upper management and shareholders are looking for ways to increase short term financial gains. Boeing has sold off many of their internal operation to subcontractors with little concern on how to manage quality control outside their operation. Boeing CEO David Calhoun, will need to rethink his position with shareholders, working with a bottom up approach to manage quality control or Boeing will be no more then a financial investment company that doesn't make planes anymore.

please save us: No network & no electricity in Bangladesh right now. It's a complete intentional blackout by the government. A massive clash in going on with the students and the government forces. Rest of the world lost connection with Bangladesh. No one knows what is happening there right now. We can't contact our friends and families there. This is beyond stressful. Something terrible might be happening there. We are Bangladeshi students. We need international intervention.Right now police are attacking our unarmed brothers and sisters in universities without any reason.  They have blocked their mobile network as well. Please help our students ..Bangladeshi students urgently need international support. #SaveBangladeshiStudents 🇧🇩🙏 #SaveBangladeshiStudents #ALjazerra #Bbcnews #CNN #TheWashingtonPost #TheNewYorkTimes #TheGuardian #BBC #AlJazeeraEnglish #TheWallStreetJournal #CNBC #DhruvRathee #UnitedNations #NewYorkTimesOpinion #ABCNews #NewYorkPost #ProjectNightfall #AbhiandNiyu #QuotaReformProtest #quota_movement  #bdpolice_brutality  #bsl_brutality  #save_bangladeshi_students Please save our brothers and sisters🇧🇩

It’s ironic! how navigating life’s challenges seems to prepare you for the most critical roles? Should we really be pigeonholing people into tough roles just because they’ve proven they can handle adversity? When faced with impossible odds, succeeding feels like a personal victory and a statement to the world. - But is this really a fair shot, or is bias at play? - How can we ensure that everyone gets an equal opportunity without hidden biases? #Leadership #GlassCliff #FairOpportunity #BiasInTheWorkplace #Empowerment

Been there. It feels like betrayal. If they had been honest it would have worked out better. Most companies don’t look for win-win solutions

This happened to me twice. It is real. I was tired of being the crisis cleanup leader who got zero recognition or promotions, so I left.
