Children waiting for mental health treatment is a scandal. The NHS is failing on this issue, which we at Migdal Emunah and other #sexualabuse organisations have been shouting about for the last eighteen months. As we approach the end of our financial year, I can see that our counselling spend for 2022 was £15.5k, for 2023 was £24.5k and for 2024 projected demand for our specialist sexual trauma counselling is £45k. This is a huge jump in demand, reflected by increased client need. 100% of our male clients experienced #childsexualabuse #csa and over 70% of our female/non-binary clients. Our health services simply have to do better. If their own mental health services cannot cope with demand, funding must be found for the voluntary sector to take up this slack.
Nearly half a million children are waiting for mental health treatment, with some youngsters left to languish for several years before being seen by doctors in what has been described as a “scandal”. https://lnkd.in/eY76AwD6

This can't go on Urgent referrals to child mental health services in Scotland are up 30% in 4 years Effective prevention and early intervention is a critical aspect of resolving this crisis - not only in terms of improving young people's wellbeing and with it their future prospects, but also in the sense that it is incredibly cost-effective for young people, their families, schools, universities, and workplaces, not to mention the NHS and society as a whole If we can effectively manage low-level mental health issues more readily at scale, everyone wins

The mental health crisis we're seeing goes deeper than individual well-being—it's a cascading effect that weakens entire communities. We need to address those needs along with the actual root causes. By prioritizing accessible, preventative mental health care, we can strengthen communities' mental health and potentially aid in the collective healing of our communities. #MentalHealth #Wellbeing #PatientCare
