Unlocking the Potential of Refugee-Led Organizations (RLOs): 🌍 New insights reveal that only 1.2% of humanitarian funding reaches local and national actors, including RLOs. These organizations play a vital role but face chronic underfunding and a lack of transparency. In 2022, only $26.4 million reached 800 RLOs, a fraction compared to the overall humanitarian system. Why the data gap? Limited tracking, non-reporting by intermediaries, and the absence of a common RLO definition hinder transparency. Imagine the impact if we could bridge this gap! 🌍 Ensuring Access to Crucial Spatial Data for Sustainable Development 🌐 Access to spatial data is vital for informed decisions on land use, especially in areas like forestry, agriculture, and mining. However, transparency is often lacking. This is where the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) steps in—a framework fostering data exchange and coordination. 🔍 What's NSDI? It's a tech-savvy, policy-driven framework enabling the creation and exchange of geospatial data between sectors. Why is it crucial? Without NSDI, ministries develop plans without standardized spatial data, leading to uncertainty over resource use, conflicts, and suboptimal development outcomes. 🌍 The Need for Global Benchmarking: Surprisingly, we lack comparative knowledge on NSDI quality globally. University of Oxford, UCLouvain - Université catholique de Louvain and WWF-UK are addressing this gap. They're working on an NSDI index to benchmark the state of NSDIs worldwide.
