We are delighted to have participated in the Raoul Wallenberg Institute Online Seminar, where we had the opportunity to share valuable insights. Here are some key takeaways from Al Kags enlightening session: 1. For effective #CitizenParticipation, it is essential to establish mechanisms that identify citizens' needs and their collective potential. This lays the foundation for meaningful engagement. 2. Governments and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) should prioritize organizing forums that facilitate #CitizenEngagement, that are inclusive and accessible for all. 🤝 3. Lack of #OpenGovernance, #CitizenParticipation, and #Accountability at the grassroots level can shake the very foundation of our democracy. Rachel has a deep passion for turning raw #data onto actionable insights in data analysis and infrastructure development. It’s inspiring to see more #youth actively participating in public meetings! We acknowledge the crucial need for comprehensive civic education and celebrate the efforts of #grassroots organizations in County Government of Kilifi. #CivicEducation #CommunityEngagement
Over the past week, our CBOs have been busy, in a good way 😃 They have been actively mobilizing their communities to participate in public meetings on the Annual Development Plan (ADP) 2025/2026. across 35 wards in Kilifi County. Through their efforts, the turn out was great and they successfully gathered and consolidated community feedback, which has been submitted as memos to the county government. This valuable input will guide the county in designing impactful projects for Kilifi County. During today's debriefing, two key highlights emerged: First, there has been a notable increase in youth participation at public participation meetings. Second, they commended Kilifi County Government for providing ADP booklets in both English and Kiswahili, which promotes inclusivity for all community members. We recognize the ongoing need for extensive civic education, and we are proud of the role #grassroots organizations in Kilifi County are playing in equipping residents with the knowledge and confidence to engage effectively. Not only are community members turning out in large numbers, but they are also well-informed to voice their needs and drive positive change. #NjooMaono #MaonoSpace The Open Institute
