As wildfire season gets underway across the West, the lessons of the devastating blazes of 2020 continue to reverberate in rural Oregon. The Community Rebuilding Fund was a collaboration of OCF, The Ford Family Foundation, Meyer Memorial Trust and the American Red Crosss. It raised $10.8 million for community-led efforts to make fire-devastated areas stronger over the long term and more resilient to disasters. OCF donors stepped up to give generously. Those dollars have now been fully distributed. Yet, the fund’s impact lives on: In local nonprofits more equipped to help their neighbors. In funders that act faster and work together more effectively to help communities after disasters. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gEvZUY8N

𝘿𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙖 𝙨𝙪𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙪𝙭 𝙤𝙛 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 😲 💪 Disaster-relief charities have long contended with sudden influxes of attention and donations. But any nonprofit could face this enviable “problem.” While your nonprofit is in a period of relative calm, consider how you might handle it. For example, track normal website traffic so you’ll recognize when interest in your organization is surging. Make sure you can get in touch with board members, who may need to make quick disaster-related and financial decisions, and new volunteers, who will want to do their part. Also, be prepared to capitalize on any surge of media interest in your nonprofit and turn it into long-term support. Empowering Nonprofits Through Strategic Funding and Grant Writing Expertise | Specializing in Community-Led Organizations
In times of disaster, we often look to government agencies for relief, but what about the vital role of nonprofits? The recent Maui fires and Hurricane Helene (NC, SC, FL, and GA) are clear examples of how quickly nonprofits stepped up when the government response faced delays. Nonprofit organization organizations are often at the forefront, providing immediate aid to thousands. This is a reminder of the importance of local charities in times of crisis. Their flexibility and deep community ties make them essential for swift, effective relief efforts. Here's how nonprofits can prepare to be first responders in their communities: 1️⃣ Establish emergency plans - Develop disaster response strategies and protocols. 2️⃣ Train volunteers - Equip your team with the skills to respond effectively in crisis situations. 3️⃣ Build partnerships - Collaborate with local government, other nonprofits, and community leaders to strengthen your response network. 4️⃣ Secure funding - Ensure you have access to emergency funds to mobilize quickly. #nonprofits #disasterrelief #communityfirst #philanthropy #mauifires #hurricanehelene

Nonprofits that are facing unexpected and unbudgeted expenses need a lifeline. That’s where we come in! Our Critical Needs List provides a place for nonprofits that are currently facing time-sensitive operational challenges to share their needs with potential donors. NAMI Pasco is one of 66 nonprofits that have faced a challenge and received funding through the Critical Needs List since it started in 2021. After damages sustained from Hurricane Idalia, Pasco County’s main mental health hospital had to close. Pasco residents turned to the only nearby mental health provider: NAMI. Facing an influx of patients, NAMI requested funds for additional staff support. Generous fundholders stepped forward to fulfill most of NAMI’s request to continue providing accessible mental health services during an especially challenging time. To amplify this important funding, we provide a 1-to-3 match to any grants made from our fundholders to needs submitted on the Critical Needs List. View the Critical Needs List to see how to help a local nonprofit, or share it with a nonprofit that you think could benefit from the List: https://loom.ly/sUT6ikA #TampaBayNonProfit #NonprofitSupport #Philanthropy #Pasco

EM community! Let me tell you about an amazing VOAD called Project:Camp. They set up pop-up, trauma-informed day camps for children in areas that have been affected by disaster. They are currently on the ground in New Mexico setting up one such camp in response to the wildfires. Unlike most NGOs, they put children's care and well-being at the forefront of response. I love their mission and happy to be getting more involved. If you like their mission too and, as an EM professional, can see they may be able to aid your communities post disaster, I have a few asks: 1) Please like/share this post to boost their visibility 2) Please reach out if you are or know of the right POC in your community to begin building a relationship before disaster strikes. 3) Please consider donating
