Welcoming Alejandro Piñeiro Bello to the gallery! Alejandro Piñeiro Bello (b. 1990, Havana, Cuba) paints the mystic splendor of Caribbean culture with a focus on the Caribbean diaspora, Cuba, and the surrounding island nations’ identities, and histories. Piñeiro Bello’s practice is deeply informed by the emotional and sensory experience of his life between Havana and Miami. Using traditional materials, such as oil on raw linen or burlap, he creates striking dialogues between the deep beige of the canvas and an iridescent palette of jade greens, oranges, purples, and teals. Drawing inspiration from dreams and memories, his paintings describe a fleeting, timeless feeling. This fall at #PaceLondon, we will stage the largest exhibition to date—and first in the UK—of works by Piñeiro Bello, from September 3 -28, 2024. Titled 'Entre El Día Y La Noche (Between Day and Night),' the show will feature new paintings, works on paper, and a sculpture. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gyb5fGDJ

Whether it’s the towering size of the sculptures or their fantastical subjects like witches and sea monsters, it’s hard to find a visitor at Grounds for Sculpture without a smile on their face. This sprawling art park in Hamilton Township is unlike any you’ve ever been to. There is a theme park quality to the experience and that is not meant to diminish the importance of the works found within. The park has somehow managed to make art-viewing a family-friendly activity. One reason why young people respond to the sculptures is because it’s one of the rare places where you can get right up close to them, touch them, and in some cases, such as Roberto Lugo’s Put Yourself in the Picture, climb on top of them. Everything you might need — food, snacks, coffee, even cocktails — is found here, making it easy to take your time. It is the sort of place that rewards exploration. Not all the artworks are found along the walking paths. Some are in little clearings or down side-alleys and other works can only be spied while looking in unexpected places. Grounds for Sculpture is easily accessible via public transportation. Take the Northeast Corridor train from Newark Penn Station to Hamilton Station (one stop after Princeton Junction). Right outside the station hall on the northbound side is a bus stop for #608. From there, it’s a five-minute bus ride to the park. #groundsforsculpture #hamiltontownship #ratsrestaurant

Real Estate Interesting Fact - Iconic Buildings Around the World You Need to See Before You Die: The Sistine Chapel — Vatican City In 1508 CE the Pope commissioned the celebrated Florentine sculptor and painter Michelangelo (1475-1564 CE) to paint scenes on the ceiling of the Vatican's Sistine Chapel. The walls of the chapel had already received decoration from some of the greatest of Renaissance artists, but in four years of toil, Michelangelo would outshine them all with his ambition and technical skill, producing one of the defining works of Western art of any century. The multi-panelled ceiling shows the story of Genesis from the Creation to Noah and the Great Flood. Essentially, the scenes show the creation of humanity, its fall from grace, and ultimate redemption. https://lnkd.in/eH_3g-tG

Think about the last time you went on a walk. Do you remember seeing any public art? If so, think about some of the details that stood out to you about the artwork and the impact it had on your walk. Public art is all around us, often representing the communities they are located in. Take for instance this maquette from Alexandre Arrechea’s public art series, No Limits. Initially located on Park Avenue, the series featured 10 large sculptures, all inspired by New York's most notable landmarks. This maquette resembles the Sherry Netherland, a historic Hotel on Fifth Avenue. However, notice how the building is not set in its typical vertical position; instead, the artwork loops around, its configuration serving as a reflection of our society's social and political shifts. Take a closer look at the maquette in the image and consider the following questions. - What are some elements within the design of the artwork that stand out to you? - Does it look like the maquette is portraying movement? - Why do you think that Alexandre Arrechea used buildings to symbolize the changes our society undergoes? - Is it important for neighborhoods to have public art? Why might it be beneficial to our society? ___ Alexandre Arrechea (Cuba, b. 1970) Sherry Netherland, 2021 27 x 27 x 3 inches Stainless steel Courtesy of the Artist #LearnWithMOLAA #Slowlookingsunday #MOLAA @AlexandreArrechea

On the road toward a Neoclassical or Romantic “poetics of ruins”, we meet with the Baroque age, when European pictorial art rediscovers above all the remains of Greco-Roman antiquity, often composing scenes or landscapes of fancy “capricci” with the extant monuments of that past. However, those ruins or monuments weren't always classical. Sometimes, they could be medieval or of other genre, thus anticipating sentimental themes which would become dear especially to Pre-Romantic and Romantic artists. One of them was the Dutch Jacob van Ruisdael. Below, in the top images, two versions of his masterpiece “The Jewish Cemetery”: on the left, the oil on canvas at the Detroit Institute of Arts, MI (ca. 1654-55). Indeed, this is a symbolic and decadent rather than ruin painting, since when the painter depicted it that old graveyard in Amsterdam was still in use. Furthermore, imaginary elements are mixed with real ones. The dominant allegory was very fashionable at the time, the so-called and biblical “Vanitas vanitatum” or “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” The atmosphere is generally gloomy, but there are elements of hope. In particular, the rampant rainbow, in a still cloudy sky. It complements a detail on the stream crossing the cemetery. That's a tree, perhaps felled by lightning, but which works now as a natural bridge. In the background, three small human figures in a mournful attitude complete the representation. The latter version, here on the right, looks less detailed and providential (Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden, Germany). Lower, two Gothic architectural views, by Van Ruisdael as well: on the left, “Landscape with the Ruins of the Castle of Egmond” (Chicago Art Institute, IL; 1650-55); on the right, “Ruin of Brederode Castle from the East” (oil on panel: Philadelphia Museum of Art, PA; 1655).
