The Peninsula Hong Kong participated in the HSH group’s annual “Honing Skills in Hospitality Programme”, which was relaunched this year. Two students, Rimshah and Bijaya, from Hong Kong’s ethnically diverse community, underwent a 4-week vocational training programme with nine other participants across our operations. The students were given the opportunity to gain essential hospitality skills, appreciate the Peninsula service excellence, and connect with our team. We look forward to welcoming and cultivating more young talent into the hospitality industry.

Happy Birthday 🇸🇬 from the Singapore Embassy, Kuala Lumpur!
Beyond the BBQ with copious amounts of meat, drinks, games and laughter-filled conversations...
...being away from Singapore has given me a new found admiration for the land I call home.
We've often heard this phrase - Singaporeans live in a bubble.
I never quite understood that. But the past 11 months in Malaysia (esp within the diplomatic circles), I've realised that we Singaporeans have an unrealistic view of what's normal...
For example...
SAFETY:
We have a world class safety standard that we sometimes expect should be the norm.
"Eh, Malaysia safe or not?" This is the number 1 FAQ is get.
It's NOT that Malaysia is unsafe. It's actually above average by global standards. Globally, everyone are taught to just be a bit more careful when we're out. It's no different in Malaysia.
But in Singapore, we use our laptops to chope tables. Our safety standards is not the global norm. It's a privilege.
EFFICIENCY:
We are one of the most efficiently run countries in the world that we sometimes expect should be the norm.
In Malaysia, things can appear to take more time. Queueing to pay at Watsons, processing documents with their civil service, waiting for the traffic light to turn green that's causing a jam pile up while allowing cars to cut into my lane. And I'm now beginning to enjoy this cadence.
In Singapore, if the cashier is not moving at warp speed, I get irritated. If submitting official documents is complicated, I complain how bad the govt is. If a driver cuts into my lane which delays me by 2sec, I unleash my inner demons.
EDUCATION:
We have a world class education that we sometimes expect should be the norm.
I've realised many of my Malaysian friends hold our education system in high regard or even slight envy. Some reminisce their days as ASEAN scholars...
...and none can comprehend how just MOE can give out iPads to students as part of the integrated learning.
But in Singapore, it's simply just another regular day in school for students.
FOOD:
No la. Here we really cannot win Malaysia! (Added in just for laughs)
But yes! That's Singapore for you!
Being in Malaysia has so far been one of the best experiences of my life. It has taught me to slow down and appreciate just being in the present...
...while also being grateful of all the things I've taken for granted, treating privilege as normal.
Happy 59th Birthday, Majulah Singapura!
System-relevance - that describes in my eyes the importance of apprenticeships to the Swiss economy. Over decades we have relied and depended on the dual education system as a crucial engine of productivity and growth. This has not gone unnoticed, and it is rewarding to see other countries' curiosity to learn from us (see recent visit by Singapore delegation).
This being said, recognizing that the world is changing, and certain elements of the success formula won't do the trick in the future is crucial. Topics we need to get our heads around through education associations and in collaboration with policy makers are 'academization' of society, international title equivalence, preparedness of pupils after middle school, just to name a few.
At aprentas, the Swiss Life Sciences vocational education association, we are highly committed to identify solutions to some of these trends as we can't think of anything more rewarding than working together to create the best possible environment for our kids so they can find their calling while making a difference from the very early days in professional life! 🌟 I recently had the privilege of hosting a delegation from Singapore who expressed a keen interest in incorporating practical training into their education system. This visit was truly motivating, considering Singapore's reputation for having one of the best school systems globally and consistently ranking high in the PISA study.
💼 Practical experience is undeniably crucial in today's professional world. Whether it's the ability to work practically or having a deep understanding to develop strategies and foster innovation, vocational training naturally incorporates practical training into the curriculum. 👩🔧👨🔬
💡 The fact that the Singapore delegation showed such a strong interest in the practical training offered to our apprentices demonstrates the relevance and state-of-the-art nature of our apprentice curriculum. It reaffirms that we are on the right path in equipping the next generation with the skills they need to flourish in their careers. 📚💪
🙏 I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the delegates for their openness, curiosity, and keen interest during their visit. It was a pleasure sharing insights and experiences.

Studying in Switzerland offers excellent opportunities, especially for Vietnamese students, who often prioritize programs in Hospitality Management or related fields.
Yesterday(25 May), I attended an Education Fair (apv.ch I schoolexpo) in Zurich and was thoroughly impressed by the diverse range of programs offered by various institutions, spanning from online to offline formats. The variety of courses available—from sciences to business, and from basic to professional levels—highlighted the comprehensive educational offering in Switzerland.
After some conversations with various experts, I concluded that Switzerland stands out as an excellent study destination for the following reasons:
✨ Practical Learning: Programs are designed to teach the best methods that can be directly applied in real-world scenarios.
✨ Multicultural Environment: The diverse and inclusive atmosphere enriches the learning experience.
✨ Safety: Switzerland is known for its safe environment, providing peace of mind for international students.

It seems like a shortsighted move to draw the attention of the world to show that Malaysia has some kind of post-study visa, yet it remains a luxury as it excludes most students from developing countries who make up the majority of Malaysia's international student population. As per Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), the students originated from countries such as China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Yemen, Egypt, Iraq, and Japan in 2021. I wonder if these statistics were considered while announcing the graduate pass. India and China has been added to the list lately, but what about other countries? The limitation to 23 countries is unequal and unfair treatment towards students from developing countries.
Malaysia's has introduced Graduate Pass. International students from 23 countries can stay one year after they graduate to work or travel. Why are Germany, Finland, USA and Denmark are in the list? The top 5 regions that send international students to Malaysia are East Asia, South Asia, Mena, SEA and Africa.
Do you Know Why Malaysia is Rising as the Preferred Study-Abroad Destination among International Students?
Official Education Malaysia Global Services writes that securing a top-notch education with a globally acknowledged degree is essential. Being able to experience a diverse cultural environment, coupled with cutting-edge infrastructure for both educational and extracurricular pursuits, will maximise the benefits of your overseas academic venture.
Malaysia has been a popular choice to pursue their studies among international students around the world. Malaysia has so much to offer as a progressive country with a vibrant community and friendly people of diverse backgrounds. These are among the reasons why Malaysia is gaining interest among international students.
