"Our digital lives today are seemingly limitless worlds of people to follow, music to stream, articles to read, and so on. The flip side of all that digital abundance is that we often feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and burned out from it all."

How do you "re-perceive" the (View From the) Future? Including when your scheduled class guest is sick (thankfully recovering) and you have to figure out a quick pivot? As magical serendipity of future forces would have it, in less than 24 hours we found not one - but TWO - fabulous guests from the future who were gracious enough to share their work, passions and futures journeys with us. Steve Downs is the co-founder of Building H, a speculative design & strategy hub focused on reimagining health through the lens of systems, communities and environments. Steve started Building H with former Wired editor Thomas Goetz over a shared interest (passion) to challenge the status quo about how we imagine and support holistic health. Suzy Ryoo is the President of Venice Music, a tech-enabled music company reimagining the relationships between artist and audiences in abundant and expansive ways. Suzy co-founded Venice with Troy Carter a visionary music executive, venture capitalist, and entrepreneur (oh, and occasional Shark Tank judge). We opened up our conversation with a quote from science fiction writer Bruce Sterling: “Futurism is an art of re-perception. It means recognizing that life will change, must change, and has changed, and it suggests how and why. It shows that old perceptions have lost their validity, while new ones are possible.” Although seemingly focused on very different industries, our conversations surfaced some very aligned themes of how “re-perception” can unlock new ways of seeing and operating in the world. A few gems below: 💡 Be willing to challenge the core assumptions behind a system or industry that can keep you trapped in an old model. Most people ask, “How could I make this better?” Instead start by exploring: "What does (or could) good look like?" [Check out Building H's Builders page highlighting "companies that make it easier, more attractive or more compelling to engage in a healthy behavior by changing the environment or changing the available services."] 🎉 We can re-perceive currencies that matter most and want to incentivize: Trust. Curiosity. Care. Community. Leading with core values can unlock extraordinary futures. Suzy shared the origin story and growth of her partnership with Troy based on shared values which has created the foundation of their extraordinary work together. [Venice music has created a whole new business model built on unleashing community value - check it out, especially if you're a new artist!] ⁉ How might we re-perceive what technology should (and could) enable? It’s not tech in service of more tech. “As a society, how do we want to apply tech to support our health? What is tech for, really?" And, one of my faves of the afternoon: How can you re-perceive a role that makes you so invaluable that you're "unpoachable?" Thank you for joining Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford ( d.school ) & Ariam Mogos, Steve and Suzy!

BYE TO 2023 So many people struggled in 2023. I would like start this by saying, I wish you all a beautiful, healthy and productive 2024 with not as many bumps. I’m including a Tori Amos song as my theme song for last year. Not too much work, not too much creativity just a “Pretty Good Year”. https://lnkd.in/g4uPSzaT with insights. I think what happened for me and so many, is that we realized that 2023 was filled with a lot of just ok things. We are still devastated by the shock of the past few years; Covid, War, the economy. The economy has been rough all over the world with so many political changes and war going on, this affects the World. What I decided to do during 2023 was instead of focusing on all external elements that I cannot control, I would work on the inner universe, those things I can control. I’ve spoken to others who did the same, finding the purpose in you whatever that seemed to be. Occasional I get a little deep, if you know me, then you know: For all the human life that we have in this world, we are still individuals with independent DNA, so how we get to where we get, is going to be in our own unique way. Sometimes this is something that we forget. The deep part, is that a lot of times when we get into groups, we lose ourselves, but there is still an individual with their own motivations running things. With that, I will repeat, I wish you all a very happy and productive 2024. One where you create on your own first, and although collaboration is beautiful as individuals, sometimes we need to sit still and work it out on our own first, which will help you bring something out into the world that has your own specific vision, and vision, is something that we all could use a little more of at the moment!

This video will go over 2 weeks, as it such an important part of building your resilience. The first week we will be going over studies that look at building resilience, and different factors that can lower our resilience. Factors such as our age, our gender, psychological issues and socio-economic status. A great learning tool was how well people coped during the global lockdowns, and how resilience was shown or lacked during that period. It showed us the importance of interpersonal relationships, and having those people we can count on during the tough times. On a personal level we should do our best to keep a positive outlook, and believe in our own ability to have the strength, knowledge and support to get through life's obstacles. Socially, having a tight group of mates, and support from family has been shown to help increase someone's resilience. Overall, it shows that in order to help increase our resilience, we should have both tight nit, and loose nit networks. Both of these will help with resilience and will also help slower cognitive decline as we grow older. These groups will also help for social support when needed. Next week we will be running through a few different strategies for you to put together your own long term resilience plan, so keep an eye out for that one. What moves you? What will move you in 2024? Not everyone is a genius. In fact, most of us are people who do not always have a gift or talent so specific that makes us instantly stand out, so have to work diligently to be recognized – and this is definitely OK. Now, what to say about being a Beatle? Even more rare, since indisputably The Beatles were only 4. Only John, Paul, George and Ringo made the cut (well, there could be an argument about other three names, but still only the four can be confirmed as Fab 4…). So as 2023 wrapped up with Paul McCartney’s concerts – to me and many people, a genius in his creative line of work, and one of the only 4 The Beatles – seeing he travelling so much distance, and working his best many nights to deliver entertainment and joy to hundreds of thousands of fans – more likely millions, at the end of his Got Back Tour – it was something remarkable. I had the privilege of seeing his concerts again, taking again my family, both previous and next generations, and those were great evenings in December. From there I got to myself at least 2 takeaways: - Delivering our best is up to each one of us It is not about other people looking, meeting goals, or pleasing a boss. It is sincerely doing our best – Sir Paul probably does not need to leave home to work anymore, still does and his fans get his best efforts. And results are great. If we try and work to do our best, many of our goals will come true. - Identify your motivation – source(s)! It is different to each person, so an internal journey which varies at individual level. For some it can be an environment, professional or not, for some can be other people’s company, or enjoying an artist’s performance, exercising, meditation, reading, pursuing personal targets. Find yours. Since at quite a young age I know I am inspired by music, and other art forms – writing, acting; and more, I am inspired by people, some who are close, some who I work together with, some who are personal contacts – and many who are not; some are performers (like Sir Paul), many write on LinkedIN, some lead by example, or give honest advice. But mainly, people who show passion in what they do and attempt their best. With these 2 ideas in mind, I hope you are off to a great 2024! I wish my customers, colleagues, business partners and network a great year. #doyourbest #inspiration #2024success credits: Sir Paul McCartney portrayed by us during concerts, pics from Disney+ and O Globo websites, me with bad hair after my concert #1

Controversial Thought: Your best results don't come from your habits. Most of your results come when you take INSPIRED ACTION. When you take action in faith towards what you desire, from who you truly are, for those you want to serve, your results can come like a landslide. I have seen it too many times to ignore it. Client decides he is an executive recruiter-BOOM-he brings on big hitters to his team almost immediately. Client understands what he wants most is to engineer the processes. He gives himself permission and BOOM-multi-millions in less than a year. Client reaches out to an old relationship a new way-BOOM-referral that doubles his business! Client in a failing business decides to embrace travel in his business plan, and BOOM-joy and happiness immediately help him 8x his income (previously 6 figures) in 12 months. Client plateaued, realizes he needs help. He makes 1 phone call-1 PHONE CALL-and finds the perfect assistant that cuts his time in half, increases financially, while obliterating frustrations almost overnight. I could go on. I have so many more stories like this. Do you see the ? Big traction from INSPIRED ACTION. Yes-you should have small, sustainable actions that support your goals and identity, but you must create space available to take inspired action. This is where lightning happens. This is partnering with God. This opens you up to massive opportunities. How can you 30-60-100x your results in the simplest way? #sellanywhere #purpose https://lnkd.in/eBRPcf53

A Message for all Artists our there; Keep Grinding Non-Stop: The Power of a Positive Mindset for Musicians and Independent Artists In the world of music, success rarely comes overnight. It’s a journey filled with highs and lows, triumphs and setbacks. But one thing remains constant for those who make it: the relentless grind and a positive mindset. Not Giving Up: Every successful artist, from Drake to Billie Eilish, started with a dream and faced countless rejections. What sets them apart is their refusal to give up. They kept pushing through the tough times, using each setback as fuel to propel them forward. It’s this perseverance that turns dreams into reality. Keep Grinding Non-Stop: The grind is real. It’s about putting in the hours, perfecting your craft, and constantly evolving. Beyoncé didn’t become Queen Bey overnight. She spent years honing her skills, performing at small venues, and embracing every opportunity to grow. For independent artists, this means creating, collaborating, and performing whenever possible. It’s about making every day count. A Positive Mindset: Your mindset is your most powerful tool. Believing in yourself, even when the odds are against you, is crucial. A positive attitude attracts positive outcomes. When you focus on your goals and stay optimistic, you open doors to new opportunities. Artists like Lizzo and Post Malone are living proof that a positive mindset can transform your career. Every Artist Must Be: - Persistence:Keep pushing forward, no matter the challenges. - Dedication: Stay committed to your craft and your dreams. - Resilience: Bounce back stronger from every setback. - Motivation: Stay inspired and keep the fire burning within. -Success Stories: Learn from those who have walked the path before you. Be Inspired and Motivated like: - Drake: Who 'Started From the Bottom' to global superstardom. - Billie Eilish: From bedroom recordings to Grammy Awards. - Beyoncé: From Destiny's Child to being a global icon. - Lizzo: From sleeping in her car to topping the charts. - Post Malone: From SoundCloud uploads to multi-platinum albums. Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Stay persistent, keep grinding non-stop, and maintain a positive mindset. Your breakthrough is just around the corner. Note this Down: "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts."

🎸 Flipping the Record: Discovering Life's Greatest Hits on the B-Side 🌟 Remember those vinyl records with their groovy A-sides, the ones that everyone talked about? The hits, the chart-toppers, the tunes that defined an era. But then, there was the B-side, often overlooked, sometimes underestimated, yet holding hidden gems that would sometimes outshine their A-side counterparts. Think Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” originally a B-side to “We Are the Champions,” or The Smiths' “How Soon is Now,” the flip side of “William It Was Really Nothing.” Surprising, right? This musical revelation got me thinking. Isn't life after 40 a lot like those B-sides? Society often spotlights our younger years as the ‘A-side’ of life – the time to make your mark, to be on top of the charts. But what if, just like those unexpectedly amazing B-sides, our 40s, 50s, and beyond are where some of our best tracks are hidden? ✨ Reimagining the B-Side of Life ✨ As a financial wellness coach, I’ve seen countless individuals rediscover their zest for life in these so-called B-side years. It’s like flipping the record and finding a track that resonates more deeply with your soul. This is the time when the ‘music producers’ of society (or our younger selves) no longer dictate our rhythms. We’re free to compose our own melodies, ones that truly reflect who we are and what we love. Your B-side era is your chance to subvert all expectations. It’s where your #AdventureFund can fuel journeys you never took in your 20s. It’s where the #Imaginarium tool isn't just a dream-builder but a life-realiser. You’ve got the wisdom, the experience, and, most importantly, the freedom to craft a life so enriching, retirement becomes an obsolete concept. 🔥 So, Be Your Own Music Producer 🔥 To all the wonderful souls in their 40s, 50s, and beyond, remember this: The producers (society) may have chosen the A-side, but it's in your power to make the B-side your best work yet. Let’s celebrate our B-side years as the era where we truly rock this stage of life, with all its unexpected hits and timeless classics. p.s. Let's keep the beats alive! What's your favorite B-side track from the 80s or 90s that you think deserves more spotlight? Drop your top track in the comments and let's rediscover those hidden gems together! 🎶💫 #LifeAfter40 #BsideSuccess #FinancialWellness #RediscoverYourZest #GenX #FinancialFreedom
