🌱 Fasting: Recent Studies Reveal Incredible Benefits! In recent years, more and more research has shown that fasting offers far more benefits than just weight loss. The latest scientific studies highlight the following key advantages: 1️⃣ Increased longevity – Studies suggest that intermittent fasting can activate cellular regeneration processes, slow down aging, and enhance overall lifespan. 2️⃣ Improved brain function – Regular fasting may boost brain performance and protect against neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. 3️⃣ Enhanced metabolism – Fasting helps the body burn fat more efficiently and regulates blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of diabetes. 4️⃣ Reduced inflammation – Research also shows that fasting can lower chronic inflammation, which is linked to many modern diseases, including cardiovascular conditions. Fasting is evolving into not just a tool for weight control but a significant way to improve overall health and well-being. As always, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new dietary regimen. Have you tried fasting? Eating a high-quality diet in youth and midlife has been linked to improved brain health in later years, potentially reducing the risk of Alzheimer's disease and age-related cognitive decline. The study, which followed over 3,000 people for nearly seven decades, suggests that establishing healthy dietary patterns early in life and making improvements to diet quality up to midlife can have significant impacts on cognitive performance as individuals age. Assessing heart rate variability (HRV) goes beyond determining “readiness”; it offers valuable insights into resiliency, particularly at the inflammatory level. While HRV is useful for assessing training adaptation and resilience, it also serves as a powerful indicator of low-grade/ chronic inflammation. Keep in mind that also gut health can play a part in suboptimal HRV due to the vagus nerve. The VN innervates from the brain stem out other organs in including the gut. A higher “vagal tone” is associated with higher HRV, indicating a well-functioning parasympathetic nervous system. In addition to HRV, other markers important for assessing gut health and inflammation include: 1. C-reactive protein (CRP): A marker for systemic inflammation. 2. Gut microbiota composition: An imbalance can indicate gut health issues. 3. Blood glucose levels- Chronic high levels can contribute to inflammation. 4. Cytokine/ inflammatory profiles- TNF-a, ESR, WBC, ferritin, homocysteine 5. Liver function, organic acids look at detoxification profile- these reflect the body’s inflammatory state and detoxification efficiency. These few markers, ALONG with HRV, can provide root cause and a comprehensive view of suboptimal HRV —particularly regarding inflammation and gut health. #functionalsportsmedicine

Did you know we spend over 3 billion dollars on Alzheimer’s and Dementia research, with most of that money going towards drugs that show little to no improvement? Yet, what’s truly life-changing is often overlooked: nutrition! A healthy diet plays a key role in preventing chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke, and even cognitive decline. 🧠 Oxidative stress and inflammation are two of the biggest contributors to brain aging and neurodegenerative diseases. 🧠 The right foods can help! Phytonutrients—those powerful compounds found in plant-based foods—can actually protect your brain. 🧠They fight inflammation, reduce oxidative stress, and even help preserve memory and learning abilities as we age. 🧠 Flavonoid-rich foods like berries have been shown to increase blood flow to the brain and protect neurons from oxidative stress. 🧠Lutein and zeaxanthin, found in leafy greens, help boost memory and cognition. 🧠And polyphenols from grapes and green and black tea help prevent cognitive decline. Phytonutrients are your brain’s best friend, fighting cognitive decline and keeping those neurons healthy! Start preventing cognitive decline today—see my brain-healthy tips with the link in the bio. #melissashealthyliving #brainhealth #cognition

Anti-aging is a hot topic in the functional medicine space because it focuses on addressing the root causes of aging rather than just treating symptoms. By prioritizing lifestyle factors and personalized care, you can optimize health, extend lifespan, and improve your quality of life. One way to do that is with two key supplements that support healthy aging: 🧬 NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide): NAD is an essential co-enzyme in every cell that protects against oxidative stress, boosts energy by increasing ATP production, supports liver function, and enhances cognitive health. Since NAD levels decline with age, supplementation, resistance training, and aerobic exercise can help maintain healthy levels. 🍇 Resveratrol: Found in foods like blueberries, grapes, and even red wine, resveratrol boasts antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It reduces oxidative stress, supports mitochondrial function, and regulates cell death, potentially extending lifespan and protecting against age-related conditions like cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative disorders. Always speak with your healthcare provider before taking any new supplements to make sure they are right for you! #antiaging #healthyaging #resveratrol #nad

Consume protein evenly throughout the day and practice intermittent fasting for improved gut health, weight loss, and metabolic responses, according to a recent Arizona State University study. Incorporating these strategies can lead to reduced gut symptoms, increased beneficial gut bacteria, and more significant weight loss compared to traditional calorie restriction alone. Prioritize a healthier gut microbiome by implementing intermittent fasting and protein pacing to benefit metabolic health and aid in managing obesity and related conditions. #IntermittentFasting #ProteinPacing #GutHealth #WeightLoss #MetabolicHealth BioMedHack.com is your leading source for the latest news, breakthroughs, and insights in medicine, biohacking, and alternative medicine.
