Animal-Assisted Interventions for Emotional and Mental Health "Animal-Assisted Interventions for Emotional and Mental Health" is a foundational text that brings together the wisdom and experience of leading figures in the field of animal-assisted interventions (AAI). The book, curated by Dr. Cynthia Chandler and Dr. Tiffany Otting, reads as a global conversation, connecting ideas across continents from the U.S. and the U.K. to Israel, India, and Hong Kong. It’s a treasure trove of insights for practitioners, educators, and researchers dedicated to the integration of animals in therapeutic settings. The book's structure is intuitive, allowing readers to navigate through interviews with experts such as Dr. Aubrey Fine and the dynamic team at Green Chimneys, to the innovative approaches of Minal Kavishwar in India and the comprehensive programs in Hong Kong. Each interview offers a unique perspective, collectively showcasing the diverse applications of AAI. Readers will appreciate the careful balance between personal anecdotes and practical applications, which provides an authentic and relatable guide to anyone looking to delve into or expand their practice in AAI. One of the book's strengths is its ability to transcend cultural and disciplinary boundaries, highlighting the universal language of healing through animals. The inclusion of various models, from academic institutions to private practices and community organizations, presents a rich tapestry of AAI in action. The editors have done an exceptional job of collating these narratives to not only inform but also inspire action and empathy in the care of mental and emotional health. Das freut den Hundebesitzer🤩😎😊 und kann ich so nur bestätigen. "The Profile of Mood States outcome showed that activities such as feeding, massaging, and hugging the dog decreased the total mood disorder score, which indicated a positive effect on participants’ moods. The Semantic Differential Method revealed that participants felt comfortable and natural while walking with a dog and relaxed when massaging it. Participants showed significantly lower stress moods in all the activities. This study demonstrated that specific dog activities could activate stronger relaxation, emotional stability, attention, concentration, and creativity by facilitating increased brain activity. In addition, interactions with dogs could decrease stress and induce positive emotional responses. These results provide data that forms the basis for the composition of the AAI program and may be applicable as a reference to determine the most effective activities for specific applications." https://lnkd.in/eDn6Qrxt

This recent research supports the incredible value a DAD or DAAD, Diabetes Alert (Assistance) Dog can have in daily life. Training and being accompanied by these dogs should not be taken lightly. But… Migraine interfered with relationships, leisure, and social activities at least sometimes for 31.8%, 41.6%, and 18.0% of respondents, respectively. Between headache days, 26.8% of respondents worried about planning social/leisure activities at least sometimes. This is where the dogs are so valuable, indicating the onset of a hypo in such an early stage makes it possible to take precautions and at best even prevent episodes or accidents to happen. Hence the intensive training. #hotscheburchellluik #act #sda #scentdetectionacademy #detectiondogs #advancedcaninetechnologies #ericburchell #medicalalertservicedog #medicalalertdog #diabetesalertdog

📢 Publication Alert: I'm thrilled to share our latest research on "Telehealth Adoption for Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders in Minnesota and North Dakota: A Quasi-Experimental Study" 🧠💻 published in mHealth Journal 🌟 Key Highlights: 👉 The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a massive surge in telehealth for treating Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Mental Health Care (MHC). 👉 Minnesota saw a significant spike in telehealth use, with larger initial increases for both SUDs and MHC. 👉 North Dakota, although starting smaller, showed a more sustained and gradual increase in telehealth usage, paving the way for long-term access to behavioral health services. 📈 Over 3.4 million mental health telehealth claims and 580,000 claims for SUDs were analyzed, providing critical insights into telehealth's role in expanding care in rural and urban settings. Our findings suggest that telehealth is not just a temporary solution but a sustainable model for improving healthcare access in the post-pandemic era. The event is curated by the Lupus Ascending Foundation and is focused on nurturing holistic care for young people who battle Lupus. The event is part of creating awareness and sensitization on the impact of Lupus in the lives of young warriors, their caregivers and the support system they need to weather this storm. We have 2 amazing speakers: Dr Angela Migowa, who handles pediatric Lupus and adolescent medicine; Mrs Caroline Okumu, a counselling psychologist who focuses on individual and group wellness. The goal of the event is 2-fold: - firstly, for people to know and digest the signs, symptoms and management of Lupus especially in young people, a group that is always overlooked. - secondly, for people to understand the toll it takes mostly on young warriors on a psychological, emotional, spiritual and physical standpoint as well as how best to support them. This toll is also carried by their loved ones within their families. We hope that this event will build more support and compassion when dealing with these young warriors in the various settings they are in as well as for their families and support system.
