Prix Pictet announces 'STORM' as the theme of its 11th cycle at Les Rencontres de la photographie, Arles. Commenting on the new theme, Isabelle von Ribbentrop, Executive Director of the Prix Pictet, states: ‘ Storm’ is increasingly the default setting for our lives. We seem to be perpetually balanced on the edge of some momentous event. It is as if the next environmental, medical, social or political calamity is mere moments away. Of course, ‘ Storm’ is the dramatic expression of nature’s wild side, yet it is also the defining characteristic of our age.' Good morning! For anyone who loves a good sunrise, here are a couple of handy tips when it comes to shooting it: 1. Be at your spot and ready to shoot before first light (aka take coffee). 2. The holy grail of morning mountain light is a rare phenomenon called 'alpen glow', where mountain tops are illuminated by indirect light reflecting off airborne precipitation and ice crystals in the lower atmosphere. It might only appear for a few seconds, so stay aware. 3. Think about how you can use the concept of 'negative space' (in this instance it's the reflection). Also, get ready to yell at anyone who's kept their head torch on. #sunrise #photography

"There are sides of ourselves that aren't welcome in polite society, thoughts and feelings too dark to share. When we recognize them expressed in art, we feel less alone." - Rick Rubin, 'The Creative Act: A Way of Being.' After years of encouragement from my wife and mother-in-law, this September I started a side business - a photography studio. Meet Mindful Wander Studio. Why start a side business? Honestly, I'm scared shitless. Art incapsulates a lot of vulnerability; it's a peek into the mind of the artist. It's something where the end-result and the artist's 'style' has no control of how people interpret it - rave reviews or utter garbage. So what is Mindful Wander all about? It's quite simple: - Imagery to spark wonder and encourage all to wander through landscape, cityscape, and travel photography. - Portions of each sale will be donated to a mental health organization, starting with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Enjoy one of the Studio's latest images, "Solitude" and be sure to visit mindfulwanderstudio.com for more.
Solitude. A moment of reflection. A moment of peace. A moment where you know that little can distract you from being present. The shore is accessible to all, yet this person abandoned it to find solitude in the still air and calm waters upon which he/she glides. The kayaker finds solace and silence under a stunning and colorful winter sunset in the Pacific Northwest. https://lnkd.in/gCw58r3Z #photography #pacificnorthwest #sunsetphotography #sunset #seattle

Using shallow depth of field for emphasis and emotion. Lifestyle candid from a recent careers shoot for Twice Daily and White Bison. I love using this technique to emphasize a person. The subject is in focus and the background and foreground are progressively softer. The highlights in the very back become beautiful abstract shapes and help bring attention back to the subject's smiling face. It creates a sense of depth and even though the bottles behind her are soft, you can still see where she is and get a sense of the environment to understand the story. #advertisingphotography #locationphotography #lifestylephotography

What do we #artists do, today, for the #environment? As you know, I base my work on philosophical and social aspects with a great focus on people and their #environments. The #landscape is a recurring theme in my #photography, as human being social scene and how it modifies itself. I would like to share this project “Inhabit the scene “ that reflects a particular moment on the planet, it is a way to get involved, a wake-up call on the urgencies of the #planet. If you would like to know more about this project https://lnkd.in/dBnyDbk4 Technique: intervened photography Landscape: I faraglioni di Capri ©️andreaspagnolo2023 #climatechange #climatecrisis
