What’s your confidence level in national institutions? “New data from Gallup, a pollster, show that American trust in several national institutions is on the decline. That may not be surprising, given the fraught state of the country’s politics, but the cumulative fall over the years is startling (see chart). Twenty years ago Americans had the highest confidence in their national government of people in any g7 country. Today they have the lowest. Americans are tied with Italians in having the lowest trust in their judicial system, and come last in faith in honest elections. Even the army is suffering from a dip. Although still high at 81%, American trust in its armed forces is now lower than at any point since 2006, and—gasp—lower than in France.” The Economist #government #politicalrisk #societalimpact US Congress #trust #politics

Many thanks to Carlos Waters and CNBC for having me on to discuss young people's perspectives on the age disparity among elected officials. It was great to share the latest research from the Berkeley Institute for Young Americans, highlighting the disconnect between what young people want from government and the policies enacted by older politicians. In this election, we each face a critical question: what kind of country do we want to live in? While some envision a nation filled with chaos, fear, and hate, we choose a different path. We choose freedom—the freedom to thrive, to be safe from gun violence, and to make our own decisions about our bodies. We envision a future where no child lives in poverty, healthcare is accessible to all, and no one is above the law. We believe in America's promise and are ready to fight for it. Together, we can achieve a country that embodies these values. Let's unite and support Kamala Harris in this election. When we fight together, we win. Join us at kaharris.com, and let's get to work. #FreedomForAll

Team: Here's the letter from the National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A) that was released earlier this week. While I’d agree that, under normal circumstances, retired Admirals and Generals should be slow to weigh-in on endorsing political candidates, I’d submit that this election is not a traditionally “political” conversation about policy proposals. It is about the fundamental norms of effective self-governance; respect for the rule-of-law, a commitment to honoring the outcomes of an election and the subsequent peaceful transfer of power, and a willingness to respect each other in spite of our varying perspectives on many things. As I gauge it, constitutional democratic norms are not “politics”; they are foundational to the national security of the nation and the American way of life as we know it. Keep pounding…W/r, 🦅🦅
