Author, "The CEO's Secret Weapon How Great Leaders and Their Assistants Maximize Productivity and Effectiveness"/President, Jan Jones Worldwide Speakers Bureau
Executive Assistants: Be careful when listening to advice from people who don’t have first-hand knowledge of your job. They lack understanding of the fundamental principles and requirements that make up the executive assistant role. This can skew their perception of how your partnership with your executive works. The purpose of your role is to support your executive. If they ask you to do a job-related task, saying no is not a smart option. You may need to refresh their memory about the other projects you are working on, but deciding what priority the work takes is ultimately their decision. Understand the why behind the request, so the reason is obvious and there's no argument about why it needs to get done. As an experienced EA, you know that priorities change. If you are in alignment with your executive's priorities and style of working, you will understand the necessity to shift from A to B. Heck, you've probably already anticipated it, and somewhere, some part of you is gearing up for it. With a bigger-picture overview and perspective of the business, your executive is in a good position to judge priorities, so trust their judgment. Offer input. Make your case if you have concerns, but ultimately they are the decision-maker. Read my article for ways to explore options that are more productive and career-saving, than foolishly considering saying “no.” https://lnkd.in/gv-28yTe Ever-changing priorities are the very nature of the EA role. You pride yourself on your flexibility and adaptability. They are the hallmarks of the best executive assistants. It's how you consistently achieve the seemingly impossible, while keeping in mind that self-care is also vital to your success. Lean into your knack for finding ways to get things done. People with an employee mindset push back when the going gets tough. Business partners take a longer-term view. Kick into that higher gear, get the job done, then rest a little. Have you been enjoying the Olympics? Those athletes do whatever it takes. They lose in one Olympics, they train harder for the next. That's how you can build your stamina, expertise and your champion's mindset. Emulate those Olympians and you, too, can take home the gold. #executiveassistants #administrativeprofessionals #priorities #flexibility #adaptability #champions

Stepping up to the plate as an Office Manager is a significant career milestone. But when do you know you're ready for this leap? Firstly, it's about confidence. If you find yourself naturally taking the initiative, solving problems without prompting, and being the go-to person for colleagues, these are telltale signs. It's not just about managing tasks but managing people too. When you're comfortable leading a team, offering support, and handling conflicts with diplomacy, you're on the right track. Experience is another key indicator. Have you been coordinating projects, overseeing administrative tasks, and juggling multiple responsibilities with ease? These are the bread and butter of an Office Manager's role. If you're doing these efficiently, you might be more prepared than you think. But it's also about growth. If you're constantly seeking to improve processes, learn new skills, and embrace challenges, you're embodying the mindset of an Office Manager. It's this proactive approach that sets you apart. Remember, readiness isn't just about what you've done, but how you've done it. It's the soft skills - communication, leadership, and adaptability - combined with hard skills and experience that truly prepare you for the next step. Are you ready to take on the role of an Office Manager? Reflect on your journey, assess your skills, and if the shoe fits, step into it with confidence. #CareerGrowth #OfficeManagement #LeadershipDevelopment
