Social communication, or pragmatics, is the way children use language in social situations. 🗣️It includes: ✔️Using language for different purposes: Greeting, informing, requesting, etc. ✔️Adapting language to the listener or situation: Talking differently to a baby versus an adult, adjusting volume in noisy environments, considering the listener’s knowledge. ✔️Following unspoken conversation rules: Taking turns, making eye contact, using facial expressions and gestures. These rules can vary across cultures and families. Social communication is crucial for building relationships and academic success. If your child struggles with this, a Speech Therapist can help. Developing social communication involves: ✔️Receptive language: Understanding language. ✔️Expressive language: Using language through speech or other means. ✔️Pre-language skills: Gestures, facial expressions, imitation, joint attention, and eye contact. ✔️Executive functioning: Higher order reasoning and thinking skills. ✔️Self-regulation: Managing emotions, behaviour, attention, and activity level appropriately. If there are multiple areas of concern, both Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy may be recommended. Hello Speech offers both, ensuring comprehensive support for your child's needs. Director of the award-winning Livewell Counselling Service. Preventing burnout, fostering resilience and empowering people.
The importance of our working relationships I have been providing supervision in the field of education for many years, and I am noticing recurring themes from teaching assistants. Some of the common themes include: · I don’t feel valued in my role · Being treated differently because of status level · Physically experiencing high levels of anxiety, · Feeling burnt out, · Believes, I should be able to manage a child's behaviour · Believes, I should be working all weekend to get this work marked · Believes, I am not good enough I sensed their roles brought an imbalance in their working relationships due to less autonomy, expectations were high, waiting on instructions, and being paid less. Often relationships can become strained because of external factors such as power imbalances. In the session, together we looked at the importance of a good relationship built on a foundation of trust, respect, self-awareness, inclusion, and open communication. Being listening to and perhaps after hard days at work sitting down and having a cuppa to acknowledge today has been a stressful day. As human beings, we all want to feel appreciated, whether you’re a manager or TA. Even just a quick "thank you" can make a real difference Our sessions focused on the positive contributions of each other and the positive impact this can have on the children and staff. It enabled the staff to see their strengths and see how much they care for the children and the difference this can make. The sessions raised awareness about each other's feelings, encouraging everyone to support and check in with one another. This led to them hugging each other and acknowledging their strengths and qualities. As human beings, we often struggle to recognize our accomplishments but find it easy to acknowledge others. #education #relationships

being Ukranian means juggling your usual life [joys, plans & dreams], standard working duties in multilingual environment and tragic news from home every day and every night🫠 being myself means despite numerous disappointments in people, I still stand for my profile "People Specialist" - because to deal with people means acceptance of different characters, preferences, even mood swings; also means being hard-working, curious, eager to learn, to know, to develop. being a true psychologist means different ways of perception, because as we see ourselves, may not the same perception of people around and vice versa. just remember: be kind and respectful, tolerate and patient. everyone has own internal fight additionally to external challenges 🙏 #peoplelovepeople #killemwithkindness

Neurodiversity advocate, autism trainer and consultant | Former teacher | "Autistic Not Weird" author | Aiding the wellbeing and potential of neurodivergent employees | Shortlisted for the 2023 Speaker Awards
January 2nd and I’ve already done my first talk for the year! 🙂 (Teacher training as opposed to a conference speech, but let's not split hairs. It was awesome.) Huge thanks to Park View Primary School in Basingstoke for hosting me this morning (my sixth time in Basingstoke!)- I knew it would be a great morning when everyone arrived, having driven through the dark and rain, on a date far too early for any school to reasonably go back… and enthusiastically greeted each other, saying happy new year and – despite the miserable morning – all seemed so happy to be back. Even in my worst teaching days, I always valued the *people* - the staff and students were always the best part of the job. And there’s nothing like a good close-knit staff team (which in my experience, are the ones that do huge amounts of good for student wellbeing). I’m glad everyone engaged so well with the training and that so many kind words were said at the end. 🙂 More than anything though, thanks for showing me a taste of the one thing I really do miss about primary school teaching. - While I'm at it, if any other schools would like staff training (or autism-based work with students, author visits, parent talks, or several of these in the same day!) - or if your company would like me to talk about getting the best from your ND employees - here's a page about the kind of thing I do. https://lnkd.in/desg2fhJ

Usually, LinkedIn is a place to share achievements, whether it’s completing a course or landing a new position. But what about being open and honest? Many people know me as an ambitious young woman who loves learning and discovering new things. And that’s true. But few know that every day I live with the open question of how to integrate my knowledge and skills into French society. My first degree is in physical rehabilitation and massage. I can’t continue to develop in this field due to health issues and a feeling that I want something more. My second degree is in social work. The third is in psychology, a field that allows me to work online and volunteer. But how can I adapt my knowledge here? Will I ever be able to work as a psychologist with the French? My English is at a B2 level, and my French is at B1. Is that enough to work here? Yes and no. I need more. I’m interested in the field of human resources, but that requires additional training as well… Every day, I think about my future and how I can be useful. Do I need a career consultant, a coach, or just more confidence? These are also open questions 😁 Have you ever felt something similar? Have you managed to integrate into a new country, and what helped you cope with it? #careerjourney #integration #mentalhealth #learninganddevelopment #humanresources #careerconsulting #livingabroad #selfimprovement #languagelearning #careegoals #openquestions #seekingadvice #professionalgrowth #personaldevelopment
