We’re wrapping up #TeacherAppreciationWeek on a high note with one of our founding #middleschool teachers - Tavish Lopez, Lead Sixth Grade #Teacher at our East Palo Alto site! Tavish modeled the value of #Courage by stepping into a new role at The Primary School to help us design and implement our growing middle school program. Tavish also demonstrates the value of #Community – creating a classroom culture that is committed to community building. He has developed strong relationships with his students which supports his ability to meet them where they are. We are so grateful for the dedication you have shown to your students and for supporting the growth of our middle school program. Thank you, Tavish!

When a family selects a school for their children, it is a deeply personal and thoughtful decision. I’m working with a district that needs to think about school sizes and attendance zoning. When framing questions with constituents around school sizes, everyone defaults to “we prefer small schools.” I get it. I benefit from a small neighborhood school where this little guy gets to walk with big brother every day. But I’ve also seen well run large elementary schools that offer SO MANY more programs and services than my son’s school. The challenge is that if your experience in a large school has not been stellar, you’re going to defer to personal experience. These are complex discussions and decisions, which is why Education Elements front loads our strategy work with robust community engagement. Because when planning happens with people and not at people, it creates less friction and more support. #strategy #communityengagement #planning #schools

Bridge Builder Between Schools and Families; National Speaker, Trainer & Coach; Award-Winning Author
"Any system created by humans can be transformed by humans as well. If we are going to effectively create more just and collaborative educational systems, we need to make key decisions together. More important perhaps, we need to change the ways in which we approach our partnerships—both the how and why that drive our work with families. . . We need to equip educators with efficient, high leverage practices that help them build stronger relationships with families, enhance learning outcomes, and transform school communities." In honor of the launch of my book On The Same Team: Bringing Educators and Underrepresented Families Together, this is one of a few quotes I’m sharing this month. My book highlights many of the learnings from hundreds of collaborative gatherings that center family voices and offer a proven structure for creating more equitable schools. #schoolimprovement #familyengagement #schoolleadership #teacherleadership #equityineducation Solution Tree NAFSCE (National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement) National Center for Community Schools National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) TalkingPoints National Center for Families Learning

I believe fostering partnerships between community organizations and schools is essential for achieving educational equity. A compelling example of this collaboration comes from Child Trends, highlighting crucial steps for strong family-school partnerships. First - designing a shared vision and goals, Second - developing shared norms, expectations communication processes, and Third - consistent and meaningful engagements. The brief also talks about Kingmakers of Oakland, an impactful community organization across the Bay. At Bridge the Gap we are proud to work with the Sausalito Marin City School District to emulate such impactful collaborations. These approaches are one of the many powerful initiatives to achieve equity in education! #EducationEquity #Inclusive #Education #CommunitySchools

Interesting article! We at Lexonik U.S. are pushing our Lexonik Connect out to districts across the country now so that we can help schools bridge the gap and stop summer decline!
Ana Pasarella spent years seeing students from lower-income households progress well in their reading skills during the school year, only to return in the fall reading at lower proficiency levels. When she became the director of family and community engagement for her district, Ana maximized her community's assets to put students first.

There are numerous examples of excellent #schoolleaders positively transforming what goes on inside the school fence without it impacting on the school’s #reputation in the #community. The sad thing about this is that many prospective parents will be more influenced by the reputation of the school in the community than by what the school has to offer their children. . Read our blog below to find out why REPUTATION always wins. . https://lnkd.in/gzGxScRu

No young person grows up in a "perfect" situation. They grow up in a family, a neighborhood, a school, and a community that is perfect for them - perfect for forming them into the unique, creative, wonderful person they will be. Our world desperately needs them to become that person. The more fully they become the healthy, courageous, caring person they are capable of being, the higher the capacity of our cities will be. We determine how high we go by how well we help them grow. It is the imperfection of each family, neighborhood, school, and community that requires us to go beyond ourselves - our own families, our own neighborhoods, our own schools - to collaborate. Young people need their families PLUS great mentors, strong webs of supportive additional relationships, teachers, and opportunities to rise to not only receive something but to become something. They need to play a key part - to become part of the help that other young people in the community need. This is the power of Love Your City. Love Your City launches youth as change makers who ignite citywide movements to transform hurting neighborhoods by impacting the lives of young people and families to help them reach their dreams. You have an opportunity to participate in Love Your City today. You can learn to fight for your children not just to behave but to become all that they are made to be. You can fight for other people's children as well. As we do, our own worlds will rise. That is a guarantee. #loveyourcity #youthdevelopment
