The news that a Philadelphia Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market store has unionized is just the tip of the iceberg. Public opinion has turned overwhelmingly pro-union since the pandemic, rising from 48% approval in 2019 to 70% last year, according to Gallup. International Brotherhood of Teamsters reports in the last two+ years membership rose by 70,000, up from only 57,000 in the decade before. Q: Did you know that Starbucks workers went on strike? A: Starbucks baristas in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle launched a five-day strike on Friday morning, according to the workers' union. Starbucks Workers United, which represents employees at over 500 company-operated cafes, warned that the strike could expand to "hundreds of stores" unless the company improves its wage offer. In response, Starbucks stated that the union ended bargaining sessions "prematurely" this week and emphasized its readiness to continue negotiations to reach an agreement. The strike was authorized earlier this week after 98% of union members voted in favor of taking action. ____________________________________________________________________ If you found this valuable, please ♻️ reshare it with your network, and 🔔 follow me for more. #leadership #leadershiptip #learning #vulnerability #inspired #real #communication #culture #linkedinpremium #careeradvancement #professionalnetworking #exclusivetools #buisnesssuccess #oneplusedge #plusonepledge

The labor landscape at Costco Wholesale is heating up as unionized workers voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. With 85% backing the move, tensions are escalating between the retail giant and the Teamsters union representing over 18,000 employees nationwide. The current Costco Teamsters National Master Agreement expires on January 31st, leaving just two weeks for negotiations. Union leaders are demanding a groundbreaking deal addressing wages, retirement benefits, and worker protections, citing Costco's record financial performance. Teamsters General President Sean O'Brien didn't mince words, calling Costco's counterproposal "insulting" given the company's success. The union is leveraging Costco's reputation for employee treatment, warning that failure to negotiate could tarnish its image. Practice pickets are already underway in locations like San Diego and Long Island, signaling the union's readiness for action. As final talks approach, Costco faces a critical juncture. A strike could disrupt operations and potentially damage its worker-friendly reputation, while a fair deal could reinforce its standing as an industry leader in employee relations. The outcome of these negotiations may set a precedent for labor relations in retail, with implications extending far beyond Costco's aisles. As the deadline looms, all eyes are on how this retail giant navigates the delicate balance between profitability and worker satisfaction. Read more on Quiver Quantitative: https://lnkd.in/gegzRuCP
