It was a significant milestone in my research career to have the abstract of my empirical study on the psychosocial consequences and mental health of forced migrant farmers accepted for publication in the international journal Genealogy.

This week I participated in the European Society for Health and Medical Sociology conference (#ESHMS2024) hosted by Antwerp University. I presented my research outcomes on the anxiety levels of Ukrainian female refugees in the Czech Republic, involving 919 participants. My research revealed that over half of the participants exhibited moderate to severe anxiety and depression symptoms. Physical health deterioration due to war and forced migration significantly elevated anxiety levels, and a decline in perceived health strongly correlated with increased anxiety. Discrimination emerged as a strong predictor of heightened anxiety. Additionally, coping strategies, such as emotion-focused and avoidant behaviors, predisposed refugees to higher anxiety levels. Interestingly, participants with stable or improved relationships with family, neighbors, and locals had lower anxiety scores. Women with children under 18 years old reported significantly lower anxiety levels, possibly due to the sense of purpose provided by caring for their children. This research underscores the profound impact of war and displacement on mental health and highlights the importance of healthcare services accessibility, effective coping strategies, and supportive social networks in mitigating anxiety. #Ukrainianfemalerefugees #Migranthealth #Refugeehealth #MSCA4Ukraine
