Helping care providers adopt technology to drive operational efficiency and improved outcomes in UK care homes 🌟 Spark Innovation Group | Spark Care | Spark Connect 🌟 Care Technology Evangelist 🌟
Reflections from the Care Showcase at Brighton Racecourse 🌟 Yesterday, Spark Care had the privilege of exhibiting at the Care Showcase at Brighton Racecourse, an event that brought together visionaries and practitioners in the field of adult social care. One of the highlights for me was listening to Kevin Humphrys, CEO at Oakland Care Group, whose insights into the future of adult social care were not only enlightening but also deeply inspiring. Kevin began his talk with a quote that resonated with everyone in the room: "Adult social care is both an art and a science, bound by the complexity of human emotions." This perfectly encapsulates the dual challenges we face in this field—balancing the emotional and practical needs of those we care for. 🎭🔬 Kevin emphasised the urgent need for fair funding reform in adult social care. It’s clear that without adequate resources, the quality of care and the well-being of both carers and those they care for will significantly suffer. He also highlighted the importance of cultural shifts within our organisations. As we evolve, embracing changes in our approach can lead to meaningful progress and enhance the care we provide. 💡🔄 Moreover, Kevin discussed how crucial the widespread adoption of technology is in transforming adult social care. From improving operational efficiencies to providing better care through advanced monitoring systems, technology stands as a pillar that can support this sector's future. 🖥️💪 It was an enlightening experience to see so many dedicated professionals in one place, all committed to advancing the field of adult social care. Let’s continue these important conversations and work together towards a future where every individual receives the care and respect they deserve. #CareShowcase #AdultSocialCare #InnovationInCare #HealthcareLeadership

"The last thing services should do is do things to people. Services should be doing things with people." - Jez Harris, Expert by experience. To celebrate #CoProductionWeek, experts by experience, Jez Harris and Isaac Samuels; Kirstie Haines, our Principal Improvement Adviser and Rebecca Bauers, Director for people with a learning disability and autistic people at the Care Quality Commission talked to us about the importance of coproduction at our recent in-person event. #CoProduction is the process of working in partnership with people who receive care, carers and families to design, commission and deliver services. They also explained why councils should consider taking part in a Partners in Care and Health peer review. Our peer reviews are an important part of coproduction. They are voluntary in nature and are aimed at supporting adult social care teams to think on how to develop and improve services for people with a learning disability and autistic people. Peer reviews are not inspections or about assurance and should be seen as ‘critical friends’, however they can be a valuable contribution or provide evidence for CQC assessments. Mosaic’s well developed and integrated person centered processes colour and shape what the person as a client and family experience, our frontline care teams (many whom have been with us for 10 years or more), and our client services (similarly) and community engagement teams all the way up to senior management. The standard model is however typically task orientated, siloed, and medically focused, emphasizing incapacity rather than intrinsic capacity. Much of care today has little time for addressing social emotional needs, hobbies, interests, community, social connections and human meaning. We believe it is a dangerous marketplace that assumes care is the same and all care is basic. Differentiating the Mosaic model from the standard service model is becoming more and more difficult as more and more organizations incorporate person centered terminology in their communications. The other day I overheard a health care professional commenting on how Mosaic was no different from any other care provider in the community. The inference appeared to be that words were cheap. Fortunately, I was able to spend time explaining our differences and reversed this opinion. With respect to our community outreach, we would like to thank those who likewise reach out to us: to those who participate, attend, and enrich our programs, to those who collaborate and invest in the community, to those who volunteer and sponsor. This bigger frame enriches us all and informs and underpins our lives and our model of care.
