Eat, sleep and poop. Camp tours are going to start heating up soon. Families will be rolling in, young kids will be super excited. You can’t wait to show them your High Ropes Course and all of your other WOW’s in camp. You’re going the wrong direction. in a recent five year ACA survey the results were clear. Mom chooses the camp. The future camper only decides if they want to go, Mom decides where. What does Mom want to know? She wants to know where their child is going eat, sleep and poop. When you think about creating a WOW in your camp, start there. If you can wow Mom at these three places, you just sold your camp. Founded in 1910, by American W.D. Boyce, the Boy Scouts of America has helped shape many of our nation’s leaders. According to legend, Boyce was lost on a foggy street in London when an unknown Scout helped him by guiding him back to his hotel. When the boy refused a tip, explaining that he was only doing his duty as a Scout, Boyce was inspired to bring the teachings of the British Boy Scout Association back to the U.S. HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL BOY SCOUT DAY: 🔹 Do a good turn for someone else! The Boy Scouts are based on the idea of doing good deeds. Celebrate National Boy Scouts Day by helping someone in need, donating to a good cause or simply committing a random act of kindness. 🔹 Learn a new skill! This is the THIRD child in weeks in the Midlands to die from drowning. This is why we are so passionate about taking our pop up pools into primary schools - not only do our classes support children’s ability to swim, but we actively cover water safety as standard as part of our classes for all children - we don’t just take one single year group we provide early intervention from the Early Years to prevent tragedies like this. The governing bodies may have their opinions but what are they doing to prevent this by demonising pop up pools and doing absolutely nothing at the moment to work together to ensure providers of this facility are doing it correctly?! When leisure centres cannot cope with the demand and school budgets cannot stretch to even cover the transport costs then it’s the children who are missing out on learning to swim and being given water safety lessons so they have the knowledge to know where to choose to swim and HOW to try and best respond in dangerous situations they may get themselves into in water. When over 10,000 children in the Black Country leave school not achieving their national curriculum targets for swimming tell me how learning to swim in a pop up pool that is ran safely is wrong?!? We won’t stop working tirelessly to try and minimise unnecessary tragedies like this. Our Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be doing another Family Hike and Trail Clean-Up (PHX)! SATURDAY MORNING (FEBRUARY 3RD) we will be cleaning up the Holbert Trailhead on South Mountain in South Phoenix! Difficulty: Difficult Access: Start at the Park Main Entranced. Take the first left on to Phoenix South Mountain Park. From this road, proceed to Holbert Trailhead to continue onto Holbert Trail. This trail offers a steady climb to the upper areas of South Mountain Park. Hike the extension trail that leads to Dobbins Lookout and be rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley below. The Holbert Trail also provides a route to connect with the National Trail just east of the T.V. Towers and west of Buena Vista Lookout. Distance: 2.5 mi Elevation Change: 1,100 ft. Hiking is an excellent low-impact workout, and is an outdoor activity delivering benefits beyond scenic and fun. Below are five reasons to hike with your kids: 1. Exercise. 2. Build self-confidence 3. Exposure to wildlife 4. Practice “Leave no trace” A great opportunity to talk about why we do not leave our trash in the park, and what happens to the litter that is left behind. 5. Unplug together We all know that kids spend a lot of time using digital media, and it is true for adults as well. Heading out for a family hike is a great way to take a break from your devices and connect with each other and the outdoors for a while instead. Make sure you dress appropriately!!
