When singer Max George recently shared his emotional story of writing a will on his phone from a hospital bed, it struck a chord with many. It's a powerful reminder of how life can change in an instant and how important it is to have plans in place. But here's the thing; while jotting down your wishes on your phone may bring peace of mind in the moment, it isn't legally binding. Wills cannot be signed electronically, and there are strict legal requirements to ensure a will is valid. It is crucial to seek professional advice to get a properly drafted will in place. It's not just about the legalities - it is about making sure your wishes are honoured when it matters most. Although not the easiest thing to think about, it's one of the most important things you can do for your loved ones. #estateplanning #wills #peaceofmind https://lnkd.in/dt3ZATSJ

Honest Eye Care Builds Trust “Ever had a patient walk out because you told them something they didn’t want to hear? I have. But it was a turning point in my practice.” A mother once brought her child in, worried about his reading difficulties. After a thorough examination, I explained that undiagnosed vision problems were likely the cause. She was expecting a quick fix, maybe just glasses. But I was honest—her child needed vision therapy, a commitment of time and effort. She wasn’t thrilled. She left, seeking a second opinion. A month later, she returned. No one else had been upfront with her, and she realized I was the only one who genuinely cared about her son’s long-term well-being. So, In eye care, honesty might not win every patient instantly, but it builds trust with the right ones—those who value genuine care over quick solutions. P.S. Be honest with your patients. It might not always be easy, but it will attract those who truly trust and respect your expertise.

If you notice these symptoms in your child, you should go to the doctor immediately... For a hearing test and to start the appropriate treatment to avoid many problems. • Muffled speech and other sounds. • Difficulty understanding words, especially when the person is in a crowded or noisy place. • Problem hearing letters that are not vowels (consonants). • Repeatedly asking others to speak more slowly, clearly, and loudly. • The need to turn up the volume on the TV or radio. • Avoiding some social environments. • Annoyance with background noise. • Ringing in the ears, known as tinnitus. #Hearing is Hernan's top priority, always your health. Did you know? 1 in 2 adults don’t have an up-to-date Will. Are you one of them? Over the weekend, I came across a compelling story about Max George, a former boy band star, who faced an unexpected health scare and required emergency surgery. In a moment of crisis, he recorded his wishes on his phone. While this may have brought him some peace of mind, it highlights an important legal reality: "Notes on your phone—or any informal record—do not constitute a legally valid Will" Why does this matter? 1. Without a valid Will, Max's long-term partner (not spouse) wouldn’t have automatically inherited from his estate. 2. Despite having access to professional advisors, like many, Max hadn’t formalized his wishes. 3. His bandmate, Tom Parker, tragically passed away at 33 without creating a valid Will, leaving his loved ones to face significant legal and emotional challenges. What happens if you don’t have a valid Will? 1. Your estate will be governed by intestacy laws—a “one-size-fits-all” solution that might not reflect your unique wishes. 2. Loved ones could face costly delays and legal complexities during an already difficult time. 3. Your personal desires, no matter how heartfelt or clearly expressed, won’t carry legal weight. The good news? Making a Will is simpler than you think. Don’t leave it to chance—plan ahead. #EstatePlanning #WillsAndTrusts #LegalClarity #ProtectYourLovedOnes https://lnkd.in/dqrWXcaP

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy was featured on the cover of this months edition of The Hearing Review. I hope this encourages more ENT's to refer patients with SSNHL early for HBOT. My collegue Rosemary Byrne MSN, ANP-BC, ACHRN and I published a research article on this in 2022: Referral patterns and gaps in financial coverage hinder appropriate treatment of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). It concludes that patients and physicians often lack timely education about adding HBOT to their care, leading to poorer outcomes. I hope this recent feature in the Hearing Review encourages ENT's to refer patients in a more timely manner for HBOT. Muscle Tension Dysphonia (MTD) occurs when the muscles around the voice box are constricted during speech or singing production. A person may work very hard to get the voice out on the surface, and while at it, they may overuse vocal anatomy muscles and nevertheless, neck muscles, sometimes without even noticing it. MTD is a voice disorder that is directly related to how the voice is used. It does not occur when someone strains their voice just once. It is usually a problem that arises from a habit of straining while talking (or singing), resulting in a hoarse and raspy voice or, in a worst-case scenario, voice loss. When two ears are put side by side it forms the shape of a heart. Interestingly, you can't spell the word 'heart' without the word ear (h-ear-t). That's because the ear is the way to the heart. So, if you want to understand someone's heart. learn to listen. To put this in a Doctor's perspective, the art of history taking and giving time for the Patient to speak and diligently listening to them gives us a chance to acknowledge what the Patient's heart truly wants to convey. Understanding this is one of the cornerstone skills of every Doctor👂🧏♂️♥️👨⚕️🩺. #Medicineforlife #Addressingneedsofpatients #Patientcare #goodlistener.
