To encourage more demand-side innovation in carbon removal, we’re piloting Stripe Climate Fellows. We’re looking to fund exceptional people who have ambitious but feasible proposals to grow demand for carbon removal by 2030. Starting September 2024, selected fellows will be given grant funding to cover salary for one year and any other critical expenses to implement their proposal. In order for carbon removal to get to climate-relevant scale, demand for it needs to grow dramatically. Since 2020, Stripe Climate has made it easy for businesses that accept payments through Stripe to direct a fraction of their revenue to buy permanent carbon removal. And in 2022, Stripe started Frontier, a $1 billion advance market commitment to scale the field further. Details of the Fellows program below. There is a new parody on a major streaming service about climate change. It has some big names and it’s clever enough over all, but really just pokes around at fictional scenarios. However, I can’t help but think about the very real untold stories from the Latino communities about the struggles faced as a result of rapidly growing temperatures. Not-so-fun-fact: during the California wildfires hospitals saw a 10% increase from the Latinx community. That’s not accounting for the over representation of workers in outdoor industries exposed to the daily elements. So we know it’s not for a lack of subject material, but rather funding. As the climate change “entertainment” conversations continue to accelerate so should the proportion of minority-led stories. Here’s to hoping.

Very excited to participate in #ClimateWeekNYC, where the focus is on how businesses, governments, and organizations are fulfilling commitments and driving climate action. It is the time and place where the world gathers to showcase leading climate action and collaborate to do more, fast. It’s not just talk, nor just lip service, nor just a place to “be seen.” This is where real conversations happen - many uncomfortable ones - to develop real solutions.

Early this year, the Center for Countering Digital Hate exposed the new ways climate change denial is spreading and how much social media is monetising climate hate content. They have also contacted a couple of the subjects exposed, like Google and Youtube, who responded positively to the request to pay more attention to the phenomenon. Good media outlets also stood up, raising the visibility of the study. We can now look at the results. Well done! #ClimateChange #ClimateDenial #OnlineHate #FightMisinformation
