It's been a HUGE couple of weeks with so many Leadership Workshops all over Australia. I absolutely loved spending the day with Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland's Exec Team talking all things leadership and impact. Then, we spent a few days with Brisbane Airport Corporation for a stack of amazing Leadership Workshops. Annabelle Bishop ran a session with Lake Macquarie City Council on building high Trust, high-performing teams. And then topped it off in Canberra for a few leadership workshops with some amazing new clients. My big takeaway from the last two weeks: Your business performance is only as good as your leadership. When leaders grow and develop, everyone benefits. My other less important takeaway: When your outfit matches the hotel wall, it warrants a photo. It was a pleasure to be part of the American Express Leadership Academy in London this week with non-profit leaders from across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. I had an inspiring conversation with UN Goodwill Ambassador and entrepreneur Sabrina Elba about the importance of purposeful leadership. She shared so much wisdom, but a few takeaways that resonated most with me: 1. We all need one another to conquer the bigger vision. Nothing gets done alone. 2. Surround yourself with people who can remind you when to slow down. 3. If you’re passionate about it, you can do it.

Knowing how to maneuver within the wider culture of an organization is critical to being able to project as an effective a leader. Fundraisers who ascend to leadership responsibilities must learn this skill and develop a network of working relationships and strong alliances. The Association of Fundraising Professionals Massachusetts Chapter is assembling its next cohort of participants in its Emerging Leaders course who will convene February 4 and 5, 2025, at the UMass Club in Boston.
