Trail Ridge drama teacher Lindsay Sullivan said she wanted to build on the school’s successful Unified sports program and used the inclusive theater programs at Frederick and Niwot high schools as models. As in other Unified programs, general education students are paired with students with disabilities as mentors. “Theater is for everyone,” Sullivan said. “Theater is a place where every kid, regardless of their abilities, can find community and talent and acceptance. The more inclusive we are, the more amazing things we can create. I’m really proud of what the students have done.” https://lnkd.in/gFtwW7Qk

There are 14.1 million disabled people in the UK – and yet only 19% of working age adults are disabled. Disabled people are more than twice as likely to be unemployed as non-disabled people. The reason? In my view, this is because the traditional workplace is not geared towards their needs. Man/Woman can accomplish anything they set their mind to. If someone has a strong enough motive, a strong enough dedication, and a strong enough resolve, they can overcome any physical, psychological, or mental disability. This year Learning Disability Week is about challenging the barriers people with a learning disability face and celebrating the things people with a learning disability do. Volunteer Opportunity: Empowering Teen Girls to Navigate Conflict and Build Positive Relationships: The odds are against me when it comes to positive influences teen girls witness when it comes to resolving conflict from Bad Girls Club, Baddies, Love & Hip Hop, Housewives of Atlanta, Basketball Wives, drama between female rap artists, etc-all they see is yelling, cursing, fighting, & how to run to social media to post negative comments & bully others. The odds may be stacked against me-but I’m not willing to give up. I know there are several reasons teen girls engage in fighting so I’m taking a proactive approach this school year to reduce girl drama. I’ve taken some time to lean on my past experience in writing anti-violence education curriculum & have developed a 10 week course aimed at helping teen girls reduce conflict & develop healthy relationships. If you are a woman who would like to volunteer this school year to help deliver some of these impactful sessions please let me know.
