JP O'Malley interviews author Maurice Samuels on his book "Alfred Dreyfus The Man at the Center of the Affair". O'Malley points out the crux of Samuels' book, that antisemitism was at the center of the case. “The rise of antisemitism in France at this time was partially in reaction to the fact that France had been so good for the Jews, who, by the nineteenth century, were by far the most integrated Jews in the world,” says Samuels. “That aroused a reaction from various segments of society, who were left behind by modernity.” Read the full article here: https://buff.ly/3Mvh8eP

I've started reading a new book: "The End of the Regime. How the Three European Dictatorships Ended." The first book by a Russian author about how the last three dictatorships of Western Europe ended - the regimes of Franco in Spain, Salazar in Portugal and the 'black colonels' in Greece. I'll write you what I think later... #History #PoliticalHistory #Dictators

Excellent discussion by Prof. Abulafia @OxfordInterfaithForum about the re-edition of her book, Christian-Jewish Relations 1000-1300: Jews in the Service of Medieval Christendom. Her approach of 'complicated ambiguity' in looking at history is helpful: The point of historical study and inter-faith discussion is to face up to our history and to do it with dispassionate integrity; not looking for villains or looking for victims, but for real human beings. In that process you will have to face up to hateful material on both sides, to deal with it and to learn from it. Not, as so often happens today, reshaping the past to suit present concerns. The author touches upon political concepts such as democracy in the Balkans and how people perceive it. Lastly, the book is a summary of ontological arguments that pertain to a rich cultural region such as the Balkans."

Palestinian PhD candidate at Cambridge University | Researching Technology and Education in a colonial context.
📚 Humbled to announce the release of “Resisting Domination in Palestine: Mechanisms and Techniques of Control, Coloniality, and Settler Colonialism.” Described by Harvard Professor Sara Roy as “an illuminating and compelling study,” this anthology delves deep into the unseen dimensions of Israeli settler colonialism. My chapter explores the ICT sector in Palestine, revealing the contradiction between universal aspirations and the harsh structural barriers faced by workers. This book is a critical resource for anyone looking to understand the complexities of Palestinian life and resistance. 🔗 [https://lnkd.in/eqS38Ftw]
