This article is written by Lt Col Stuart Scheller, our oldest son. Well written, thought provoking and timely. August 26, 2001 will be forever etched in many of OUR minds, but unfortunately already forgotten or ignored by others. As evidenced by the most recent debate, our fallen were not even counted during this term by our sitting President. This horrifically disastrously planned withdrawal is a prime example, like no other as to why we need reform in our Military. As a gardener, a planner and someone who looks to today but plans for tomorrow, I am making an analogy . The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now! I plan to plant a Pecan tree now, nurture it and help it to stand tall and produce fruit for the next 300-400 years. Not for my enjoyment, I may never live to see it Produce fruit. But I may be able to bask in its glory and shade in my old age. I will rest in peace with the knowledge that perhaps my tree can provide sustenance for the future generations. Likewise the best time for reform in our Military was 20 years ago, but we have today to make the pruning, grafting and if necessary plant newer deeper roots for the sustenance of tomorrow. Those of us Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Vets and current enlisted need to stand behind this effort to reform our beloved Military. Who do you support and recommend as a new Sec Def? It is time to have this discussion now, to prepare for a new Commander and Chief to pave the way. We have made our voices heard before, add your voice to the fray. Our Military needs a strong leader to guide it into the next century. https://lnkd.in/ewQUUfah

Article I, US Constitition speaks to the necessity to “provide and maintain a Navy.” Naval fleets (along with commercial) connect us to the rest of the world and ensures global commons are open for commerce. We can be present and project power anywhere on the globe while never depending on or infringing on sovereignty. The Constitution goes on to say Congress can raise an Army - suggesting at the time it was not intended to be a permanent standing entity. We need serious reconsideration of how we’ve organized for national security and how we will mobilize for war. We will always need a large, diverse and capable fleet which requires increased ship building, port/yard capacity, mariner career pathways…and if required at the expense of other defense sectors.
I had the privilege to co-author an essay with former Senator Jim Talent, one of our nation’s leading experts on national security. We took on recent criticism leveled by Politifact against statements by Nikki Haley that we need a larger Navy. We take on Politifact’s assertions in detail here. https://lnkd.in/ehD7hXQz

🛟 Trusting God and taking responsibility go hand in hand. Imagine a woman during a flood who refused all help, saying, 'God will provide.' When she met God in heaven, He replied, 'I did provide - the police, the navy, the air force. But you refused.' This story highlights an important lesson: while we trust in a higher power, we must also take practical steps to plan and protect our future. Financial planning, like studying for exams or premarital counseling, is about being responsible and proactive. Let’s do what we can and trust God with the rest. 💡💪 Ready to plan your future with confidence? Let’s have that important conversation today. 👇 #FinancialConsultant #FinancialPlanning #TrustAndResponsibility #LifeLessons #PlanningAndTrust #FinancialProtection #GrowCastShow #Singapore

This thoughtful analysis by Jerry Hendrix and former Senator Jim Talent, two individuals who have each devoted their careers to National Security, emphasizes the urgent requirement to expand our industrial infrastructure, particularly devoted to submarine maintenance. Yes, more Navy NOW.

I had the honor of spending time with BGen Anthony Henderson, USMC, at this month’s meeting of Navy League of the United States, Northern Virginia Counsel. He is the Deputy Director of Joint Strategic Planning on the Joint Staff (J5). BGen Henderson’s comments to the audience regarding the challenges of joint planning in today’s real-world environment and of the President’s (just released) FY25 Defense Budget were insightful. His perspectives underscored the importance of improving industrial resilience given the limitations now affecting asset sustainment, production and labor shortages. What’s plaguing the defense industrial base is also confronting CXOs in all market verticals who are witnessing limitations in production capabilities and capacities. Business strategies should consider limitations for the foreseeable future while CXOs seek improvements to the domestic industrial base.
