Soave Here is a short excerpt from my recent article: ... now, the KSA has created a new Las Vegas of sorts in terms of hosting professional boxing events—but these events are now in Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah—minus the alcohol and some of the other negative influences that sometimes accompany the sport.  Much like the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the KSA is proving that all of these sporting events can be hosted on a very large scale in a “par excellence” fashion and on an enormous global stage--one that is replete with world broadcasting rights, sponsors, and the "whole nine yards." Saudi Arabia has invested in sports in a way, extent, and manner that others have not been willing and/or able to do. Ronaldo is the sports ambassador for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ⚽ 🇸🇦 When Ronaldo joined Saudi Arabia, the Saudi league saw an immense boost in popularity and in revenue. Broadcast now in over 140 countries, up from just three. More and more people have started following Saudi news and are open to this culture. The profit margin of the SPL surged by 650%. The followers of نادي النصر السعودي - AlNassr Saudi Club club on Instagram skyrocketed from under one million to 20 million. Ronaldo opened the door to other big names to come, like Benzema, Neymar, Mane, and even Messi was very close to joining the Saudi League. Saudi Arabia has organized the strongest sports in the world, whether #football or other recreational #sports such as #wrestling championships with big companies like the #WWE, #boxing, car #racing, and other big events in other fields such as #tourism and #education. All of that is aimed at bringing both reputational and financial rewards to the country. Critics accuse the country of using Ronaldo for “#sportswashing”. In just a few days, Saudi Arabia will witness a historic moment in its sporting history as it hosts its first-ever mixed martial arts event – the 'PRL Champions v Bellator Champions'. 🥊 The 24th February will see the Professional Fighters League, who is part-owned by SRJ Investments, kick off its ambition to grow the participation and engagement of combat sports in the Kingdom. Already one of the fastest growing sports in the world 📈 – with an estimated 300 million people who now consider themselves fans of Mixed martial Arts. This all comes as part of a broader strategy by SRJ Investments to invest in sports intellectual properties (IPs) that have a global appeal while also resonating with local audiences. SJR Sports Investments back in August last year, acquired a $100 million minority stake in the organisation, and alongside their grass roots development plans, they already have several Saudi fighters on the books – Abdullah Al-Qahtani and Mostafa Rashed Neda, plus the first female Saudi fighter – Hattan Alsaif, with an ambition to target more in the coming years. Saudi takes it all again! 🔥 Ngannou - Joshua is taking place in Saudi Arabia on March 8. I’m not gonna talk about the boxing skills of both athletes, but thinking more about behind the scenes. 🥊 A major goal of sports is to entertain and engage. Fans can discuss how relevant to create events like this, but as a sports fan, I see many reasons to do so: ✅ We can observe things that were impossible a few years ago. It’s like how to select your two favorite characters from different games and play. ✅People dictate direction. You can believe it or not, but it’s engaging 2 target groups from different sports. ✅ Engagement is massive. Even if it doesn’t seem logical, you always want to know who will win. ✅ It becomes even more exciting because Ngannou already showed that he has something to show to the world. ✅ Upcoming earnings for Ngannou could be around $20 million (based on different sources) Recently in the interview, Ngannou said that it becomes more complicated to walk across the streets after a fight with Fury.  😅 What does it mean for sport? More money? Not sure for now, let’s see the numbers after the boxing match. We observe transformation of the sports in many different ways. Turki Alalshikh Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 Wealth fund Public Investment Fund (PIF) is looking to buy out Matchroom Boxing, Golden Boy Promotions and Queensberry Promotions potentially for 4-5 billion dollars to create a #super #promotion that could rival the way the Ultimate Fighting Championship functions. If they were able to attain Top Rank Boxing and PBC, this would be the closest thing to #UFC in boxing where the best are forced to fight the best. This would bring boxing back to the glory days and revolutionise #boxing on a whole different level. But something needs to be done about the atmosphere we can't be having that all the time over and over again 😂.
