Happy Black History Month! I highly recommended checking out #ForTheCultureSTL for the BEST directory of local Black owned businesses! https://lnkd.in/gf4YR2yy Via their website: "We do a lot of talking about supporting black businesses, but provide a number of reasons as to why we can't: I don't know where to go, I didn't know that they were black owned, I don't know where to start. Well, no more. ForTheCultureSTL is intended to connect black people with black owned businesses and events around the city. Whether it's the entertainment industry, a family owned restaurant, a black owned dentist, or a local clothing company, For the Culture STL is here to connect the people to you and you to the people. Our intention is to put black dollars back into the black community and keep them there and build unity in the community. Support the businesses, show up to the events, get to know each other. In order to do this we have to know where to go and what to show up for. If you know of any companies, events, stores, or small businesses that we should be supporting then let us know."

It's National Black Business Month. As a privileged Black business owner, I feel a duty to shed light on this: Black-owned businesses are 9 times more likely to operate without employees than the national average. I knew Black business stats, but thank you Samantha Katz for educating me further on the landscape. Put in that broader perspective, the Black business figures are more alarming and disappointing. Is a business sustainable with no employees? Why don't Black businesses have employees? Can you help Black businesses be successful? If you're interested in learning about my Black-owned business—which I'm extremely fortunate to run with my team—follow the link below.
