Effective Altruism (EA) is a philosophy and social movement that aims to maximize the positive impact of charitable donations and actions. It involves using reason, evidence, and science to determine the most effective ways to benefit others and make a positive difference in the world. Key principles: 1. Cause-neutrality 2. Cost-effectiveness 3. Evidence-based decision-making 4. Transparency and accountability 5. Continuous learning and improvement EA focuses on: 1. Global health 2. Animal welfare 3. Existential risks 4. Education and economic empowerment We all practice EA when we: 1. Donate to evidence-backed charities 2. Volunteer time and skills effectively 3. Advocate for policies with high impact 4. Reduce personal consumption and waste 5. Support research and development of effective solutions Effective Altruism is about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others through informed and strategic actions. According to Feeding America, 44 million people in the U.S. face hunger, yet billions of pounds of food is wasted―nearly 40% of all food in the United States. Food rescues are crucial because they act as a bridge between food donors in the corporate sector & food insecure individuals.
