📢 <<< Calling all Centennial College students! 🛎️ Join WIMTACH for upcoming #hackathons in partnership with Scarborough Eldercare Support Network! 🛎️ In late August 2024, the Scarborough Eldercare Support Network (SESN) met to identify challenges experienced by both caregivers of the elderly and caregivers. SESN identified two significant challenges during the brainstorming session. The first one focused on #falls #prevention while the second challenge focused on pain detection in people living with #dementia. There are several challenges with existing falls prevention applications. Many applications lack user-friendly interfaces, making them difficult for elderly users to navigate. Ensuring ease of use is crucial for adoption and consistent use. In two hackathons, we are aiming to develop a user-friendly, culturally-sensitive, and multilingual #software application that enhances the safety and well-being of elderly individuals by preventing falls and reducing fall-related injuries. We are also inviting students to #design and develop an #e-textile based solution that addresses the key challenges areas. 👉 Learn more about how to participate: https://lnkd.in/gGVigSx8

Shareworthy Monday thoughts: #YouthCollaboration There is so much to learn about #learninghowtolearn faster especially in this era of accelerating technology, faster than we humans can adapt. It is and will continue to be critical for each of us to tap into and sharpen our #softskills of #collaboration #communication #community #socializing having a #growthmind and being intentional as a #lifelonglearner. I have worked with #youth from my early years as a youth leader in my community (even though I didn't realize that then....what that meant), being inspired and enlightened by not only learning from others but how it would help me grow personally, instill a passion for #sharingknowledge and receiving it. I remain grateful to Phelton (The Bahamas) and Kathryn (Cayman Islands) for being part of #BlockchainBusinessSchool and Harness All Possibilities Inc. (HAP) since 2021, this year being visionaries and catalysts by launching inaugural youth events in their respective communities. Shoutout to #RyanAustin, Phelton's coding mentor in #Eleuthera The Bahamas and Daval Gregory Kathryn's coding mentor at #CodeCayman Cayman Islands who recommended to each of them in 2021 during #Covid a challenge to deepen and expand their coding knowledge. This was how I met Phelton (then 12 years old) and Kathryn (then 16 years old) to share with them and their mothers an 11 week intensive #BlockchainDeveloper bootcamp by Consensys Academy, for which Harness All Possibilities USA was a facilitator. It was an opportunity for me to learn with them and #learnfaster during #Covid as we all shifted to a #digital world. Thanks for allowing me to share the history behind events Phelton and Kathryn are launching to cascade 21st century tech to other kids in their communities so #nooneleftbehind. Follow Harness All Possibilities Inc. (HAP) for posts about their respective events, most recently this one on my involvement in the events. Best wishes Phelton Petit-Frere and Kathryn Corkish You've got these events. 👏🏾👏🏾 https://lnkd.in/ev9SfAzK

As #DigitalInclusionWeek approaches, I cannot help but think some of the milestones in my #EdTech journey. The first was working with colleagues to create the framework for Houston Community College's #DistanceLearning program. Then cold-calling Boston's #Doorways2Dreams organization working with the US Department of Treasury grant award to pilot financial #EduTainment games targeting under-resourced populations and single mothers. Not only did we end up piloting several online games with our #Houston #AdultLiteracy learners and their children, I created a city-wide competition for #Youth and #AdultEducation learners using the games, resulting in hundreds of users learning about good #Financial decision-making while having fun. Then there was #Xprize adult literacy app competition, an opportunity that unbeknownst to us helped us prepared for the global epidemic and closure of on-site learning. When doors were closed, virtual doors remained open through #LearningUpgrade and #CellEd, providing access for over 9k learners. 15 years and counting.... What's next? I continue working with incredible visionary people to innovate the way we learn, work, and live. I do have a personal goal - to leave a hologram of myself or to become part of some gaming system or virtual reality where I can continue in the field of #AdultLiteracy and edtech for generations to come. But that's just #ScienceFiction wishing, right? Tell that to the Jetsons. 😉

Our social mobility workstream is LIVE! Led by Katie Thompson and designed to democratise the use of tech for all, our start point is to support residents of Community Housing Associations with digital literacy skills so they can confidently use apps to book repairs, pay rent and engage with services, and young people in Residential Homes, with the remit to re-engage their desire to learn through short programmes that include gamification and AI. We're open to talking to anyone supporting marginalised groups, and phase two of this work will include veterans and ex-offenders. Pete Buller Josh Stamp John Stamp
