Many Michigan schools start back this week, and students in other states have already been back in the classroom for weeks. As another school year begins, it’s important to remember the purpose of education in America (according to the International Board of Education): “In broad terms, the U.S. education system has as its goal the establishment of a quality education that will enable all children to achieve their highest potential as individuals, serve effectively as citizens of a free society, and successfully compete in a changing global marketplace.” As boards, parents, educators and administrators come together, it’s so important to keep eyes on the ball so we can build a future generation that knows how to have civil conversations from the start. SME PRIME – San Angelo TX Go watch the latest installment of Advancing Angelo with Roxanne Fentress (SAISD CTE Director) and Chris Moran (SAISD Superintendent) and listen to them tell the story behind the SME PRIME initiative. The Society of Manufacturing Engineers Partnership Response in Manufacturing Education (PRIME) partners private industry with academia to build custom, hands-on manufacturing and engineering programs in high schools across the country — providing equipment, curriculum, teacher training and student scholarships along with funding for manufacturing-related extracurricular activities and program sustainability. So, what makes this initiative different? SME PRIME is provided at no cost to high schools. Curriculum is tailored to meet local manufacturers’ needs and aligned with state educational standards. SME Education Foundation staff coordinate program development and alleviate administrative burdens, and provide ongoing financial support to sustain program longevity. San Angelo ISD is only the 2nd PRIME designated school district in the State of Texas! Thanks to Andi Sheldon Markee with Media Advantage Advertising Agency and Senora Scott (KLST/KSAN) for helping tell this story, to SAISD and the SME Education Foundation for preparing the next generation workforce, and finally to the San Angelo Development Corporation, Ethicon, Inc., Principal Sloan and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce for funding this $330,000 initiative. #sanangeloTX #workforce #manufacturing #engineering #business #economicdevelopment #talent

New York State Eduction Department has finally acknowledged that a 2021 Second Circuit decision, A.R. v. Connecticut Board of Education, requires that public schools in New York provide special education and related services to resident students until age 22, or the day before the student's 22nd birthday, provided they have not graduated with a high school diploma. As a result, it is important that schools provide Transition Services for potential graduates via a transition plan. #aguidedpathway #guidedpathwaysconsulting #transitionplanning

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School (CMS) district, which serves over 147,000 students across Charlotte, NC, has an opportunity to drastically improve its disciplinary practices by involving those most affected - the students themselves. We believe that a student-centered discipline audit is necessary to ensure fair and effective discipline within our schools. This audit should not only analyze current practices but also include direct input from students who experience these policies first-hand. By incorporating their perspectives and experiences into the decision-making process, we can create a more equitable and just school environment for all CMS students. What are the social and emotional impacts of these policies? How can we go beyond the statistics to understand the students' lived experiences? New Position Statement — Comprehensive School Physical Activity Programs: Opportunities and Access for All In this new position statement, SHAPE America recommends that all schools implement a Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program (CSPAP). A CSPAP provides educators, administrators, and schools with the guidance they need to promote equitable and inclusive academic, social-emotional, and physical development for all students.
