Sponsor SECURED A lot of sponsorship-seekers are the opposite of the image below. They settle for whatever they can get from sponsors. They tend to want to get the sponsor at any cost, then keep them around at any cost. So they tend to take the very first offer. Which means they certainly don’t have what it takes to negotiate a sponsor UP — by 2.5x — and close a cash deal. All I’m saying is that OUR clients don’t have that problem. Are you giving enough value? One of the biggest complaints that I hear from sponsors is that they WANT to sponsor events, content, and opportunities… But they just don’t know where the VALUE is. They have budgets — and some of them have really BIG budgets… But they aren’t willing to spend it without a pretty good chance of a pretty high ROI. (They mostly just want to know about the market & whether it’s valuable to them). THE PROBLEM: Sponsorship seekers OFTEN get in their own way by: - Pitching sponsorship too soon - Sending over-templatized proposals or templates - Caring too much about their “purpose” or brand story - Asking, asking, asking without proving value Getting sponsors isn’t always easy, but a lot of people are making it WAY HARDER on themselves than it has to be. I suggest having 1. Some rigorous survey questions 2. A strong & accurate valuation 3. A great discovery process Now if you’ve been trying for a while without REALLY making anything happen… Or if you’ve found yourself in a situation where you 100% MUST close some sponsors or something will break… Then it is HIGHLY likely you’re missing a real strategy that is proven to work.
