While vulnerable populations (e.g., minorities, low-income families, suburban or fragmented neighborhoods and refugees) are at a higher risk of suffering from mental health issues, they have been the least tended to regarding proper diagnosis and access to evidence-based treatments. Even in high-income countries, evidence shows that access to proper care is scarce and often delayed. Factors such as economic barriers, access to proper psychoeducation, physical access to mental healthcare facilities and cultural barriers all add up in contributing to this harsh reality. Even worse scenarios are seen in mid and low-income countries, where health resources are scarcer still. American Psychiatric Association's initiatives to highlight this fact, as well as intervention guides for primary care personnel (such as the World Health Organization 's mhGAP Action Programme) are imperative to the improvement of this global crisis.
