Principal Deloitte Australia, NED, FAICD, Specialising in intangible asset and intellectual property strategy and governance
What am I doing now? I get asked this question often since I retired from law firm partnership. So I start with I am no longer a lawyer! This piques interest. At Deloitte IP Advisory I am currently pursuing a real passion of mine. I am helping businesses look at the governance and strategy for their very important IP assets. In some businesses this involves a discussion about why this is even necessary. Once past that the real fun begins. And it is fun and interesting and essential. Australia is such an innovative country. We just need to get better at making returns from our skills. I aim to help companies with that and to contribute in my small way to driving more value from #intangible assets. #innovation #ipstrategy #ipgovernance.

New job! 🙌🏼 Very pleased to share that I will be joining PwC as a Senior Manager as of 1 August 2024 where I am to further establish and head PwC Legal’s Commercial Contracts practice area. I will further be involved in the M&A practice area. PwC Legal has already been on an incredible growth journey. Just over the last couple of years, where I have watched from the sideline, PwC Legal has more than doubled its workforce in Denmark attracting e.g. talents from top tier law firms ensuring continued high quality services and advice. PwC has grown into a true full service consultancy firm (i.a. within Advisory, Assurance, Deals, Tax and Legal) and benefits from its massive international organisation. For a customer, such full service package and one-stop-shop can surely improve the quality and efficiency of services as well as reduce unnecessary hassle, complexity, and boundaries. PwC further distinguishes itself by way of its heavy investments in AI, securing e.g PwC Legal professionals exclusive access (among the Big 4) to the game-changing Harvey AI platform (built on OpenAI and ChatGPT technology). Also, having just become a father, it is imperative for me that I have time for my family, and what the PwC team has shown me during our talks was a true, outspoken focus on flexibility and work/life balance. All of the above made a tough decision - leaving my current position - easier. And I cannot wait to get to know these competive advantages of PwC even further. I look very much forward to join the PwC Legal team and its future journey. I also owe a huge thanks to the Faerch Group and my colleagues. I am very proud of what Faerch Group has achieved during my tenure, among other things more than doubling in size as well as leading the transition towards a true circular economy within the plastic packaging industry. My time at Faerch has undoubtedly made me a better and more holistic advisor - seeing directly from the customer side how advice should (and should not) be provided - and I am very grateful for having made such learnings. This will be very useful going forward. Last but not least, special thanks to my team (Sofie Kirstine Ravn Jensen, Sara Veronica Raimondi, Louise Bonde and Marina Jakoby) my manager, Tom Sand-Kristensen, and my former manager, Thomas Peter Vikkelsø Tranders. You will be missed. I will now finalize my time at Faerch, enjoy a nice summer and recharge for new exciting endeavours at PwC.

Mastering the Art of Influence - Our journey through the laws of power brings us to the 16th Law: "Use Absence to Increase Respect and Honor." This law delves into the strategic use of absence to elevate one's presence and reputation, a concept with profound implications both professionally and personally. In the corporate world, this law emphasizes the importance of strategic availability. A leader who occasionally steps back from the spotlight can create an aura of mystery and importance, increasing their respect and influence among colleagues. Similarly, in internal audit, the principle of strategic absence can be applied to command attention. An internal auditor who selectively participates in key meetings or discussions can make their contributions more impactful by virtue of their presence being valued. In personal life, this law highlights the art of maintaining dignity through controlled absence. In personal relationships, taking occasional breaks can strengthen bonds by allowing individuals to appreciate each other's presence more. Applying this law responsibly requires balancing absence with engagement and ensuring that it doesn't lead to isolation or neglect. As we explore the 16th Law, I invite you to share your experiences. How have you strategically used absence to increase respect and honor in your professional and personal life? Your insights will enrich our understanding of this subtle yet powerful principle. Let's engage in this enlightening conversation! #internalaudit #ceos #professionaldevelopment #personaldevelopment
