The festival, now set in a sprawling 15-hectare venue along a riverbank, brought together the raw energy of urban culture and the serene embrace of nature. Picture an architectural complex of 1980s unfinished wellness buildings transformed into a haven for art and music. SILA SVETA, as one of the curators, oversaw an open call for avant-garde media artists. In 2023, 18 visionary creators unveiled their works, redefining spaces with projections on trees, 360-degree building illuminations, and more. The main stage is a mesmerizing blend of technology and deconstruction — five transparent LED screens forming dynamic holographic visuals. The team and I were privileged to be at a Practice Talk Populous held in their Sydney office. I was impressed to learn that they designed the largest spherical building in the world. I'm beyond excited to see The Sphere in Las Vegas in person next month; hopefully I can get in there and really check it out. While belonging is a subjective feeling and experience, it is a fundamental human need—an ever-relevant need. In what way can design, especially of our built environment, contribute to fostering a sense of belonging? This Friday at What Design Can Do Live in Amsterdam, I will facilitate a hands-on breakout session about belonging. Excited to host the wonderful architect Lyongo Juliana as a guest speaker. Regardless of culture or circumstance, most people feel the need to be a part of something—to belong to a social group or a place they can call home. Attending CMMálaga, Culture & Museums International Tech Forum was a transformative experience for us, fundamentally shifting how we communicate our technology. The question we wanted to answer there was: How To Enhance Museum Visual Experience with Immersive Projection Technology?? Here's a summary of our key insights: 💡 https://lnkd.in/dEnhGYjH It was a breath of fresh air compared to other events like ISE and INFOCOM. Unlike these large-scale manufacturer festivals, CM Malaga is an intimate, focused event tailored for the #museum ecosystem. Over a compact day and a half (a stark contrast to the exhausting 4-day ISE), we seized invaluable opportunities to engage with real technology decision-makers from museums across Europe. Our highlight was creating an #immersive space that became a true focal point of the event. What excited us most was interacting with content creators—the creative minds behind captivating exhibitions. A noteworthy trend we observed is that today’s decision-makers are highly self-educated, often researching extensively before making purchasing decisions. This shift necessitates a transformation in the role of sales, moving towards a more advisory and consultative approach. Due to time and location constraints, we couldn't conceal all equipment and cables. Surprisingly, this turned into an excellent demonstration opportunity, allowing us to explain our visually striking presentations in an authentic and practical way. Serious visitors spent a minute marveling at the "wow" factor of the moving art, eager to learn the intricacies behind it. We transformed every casual visit into an in-depth technological conversation, a practice we intend to continue. The event was a reminder that openness and practical demonstrations can lead to deeper, more meaningful engagements.
