Inheritance Tax (IHT) impacts estates over £325,000, with rates of 40% on death and 20% on certain gifts. A 36% reduced rate applies if 10% of the estate is left to charity. Executors must value estates and may need to file tax returns for the deceased and their estate. #InheritanceTax #EstatePlanning #TaxTips

As someone who has also worked in the fees space back in my years at the Ministry for the Environment, this has been a major milestone achieved in the Crown board appointments space for the Treasury. Achieving fairer remuneration for Crown board directors is tricky business as there are so many variables and interests to balance. Overall, this is a move in the right position as for many, it significantly lagged behind market rates, even when you account for a "public good" discount. #governance #remuneration #talent
💸 Fees for the directors of 22 Crown-owned companies will be raised in two steps over the next two years in order to attract high-quality directors, says State Owned Enterprises Minister Paul Goldsmith. This is great news for those directors who want to ‘give back’ but have been struggling to reconcile the complexity and personal exposure of public sector roles with the low fees on offer. We have been advocating for an increase in director fees across the state sector for a number of years and hope to see this increase extended to other public sector boards in due course. ➡ Read more https://lnkd.in/gDNTavzq

Family businesses are built on shared history, trust, and a collective vision. However, these very qualities can also make them vulnerable to conflict if disagreements arise among family members. With the recent changes announced in the Autumn Budget in the UK and implications for inheritance tax purposes and the transfer of estates upon the passing of a shareholder it seems inevitable that there will be more share transfers taking place during the lifetime of the existing owners. This may create shareholders in family businesses earlier than the next generation were expecting and making sure that there are adequate protections and governance measures in place is therefore important. To that end, a well-drafted shareholders’ agreement is essential for safeguarding the business and ensuring its continuity. This legally binding document provides a clear framework for governance and decision-making, helping the business navigate complex situations effectively. https://lnkd.in/ePqpZ7e7

Incorporated Societies: Time to rattle your dags By April 2026 we need to have reregistered 24,000 existing incorporated societies. That is 20 months away. Reregistration began in October 2023. By 11 April we had reregistered 584. An additional 761 were reregistered by 31 July. Loosely speaking the current run rate is 200 per month. 24,000 less 1,315= 22,685 divided by 200 per month = 113 months to completion Target 20 months away The work needed for reregistration is not trivial. The accountancy and legal professions better ‘rattle their dags ’. https://lnkd.in/guGcQ3DC
