Why do some people live longer than others? Hint: It’s not about calories, vitamins, or time spent at a gym. In one of the world’s longest studies of adult life, Harvard researchers followed a group of people for 80 years to determine what makes for a long, happy, and healthy life. Their answer? Community. Experiencing joy and gratitude together. At URI, we want to create a world safe from violence that holds space for healing together.  After all, the only thing we are vehemently “religious” about is ending religiously motivated violence. But let’s face it: violence is hardly a joyful subject. So, how do we remain centered in joy amidst our often tedious work? If we only focus on what’s wrong in the world, if we don’t also remember to celebrate with song and laughter, we’re going to burn out. We won’t be able to sustain the change we seek. To celebrate URI’s 25th anniversary this year, we will sing, drum, and dance for joy. On June 18th, we’re bringing together friends and supporters to delight in an evening of soulful jazz with award-winning musicians, dancers, and more. We’ll celebrate the impact we’ve made and re-energize ourselves for the work that remains to be done. Expect to be inspired.
