The #LED Revolution continues as more and more municipalities convert their street lighting to LED in favor of high pressure sodium lights. LEDs offer several advantages to municipal governments. First, there's an instant energy savings of about 50% from HPS to LED. Second, LEDs last much longer than HPS lights meaning fewer trips by the maintenance crews. 2025 will bring new fluorescent lamp bans in some states. The FMLink editors compiled a list of resources to help FMs determine the regulations in each state, navigate the switch to LED lighting, and obtain any available rebates and incentives before they expire. The new regulations require replacing existing fluorescent lights with light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs to increase energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, lower costs, and prevent exposure to toxic mercury.
