Building on what you mentioned, Ari, families often experience stress upon learning that their child may have autism while awaiting a diagnosis. While the idea of receiving ABA therapy may seem straightforward, the reality is that there can be significant waitlists for such therapy. At Discovery, we empathize with the emotions of parents and strive to expedite the process of getting their child into care promptly. :) #abatherapy #wecareaboutyou #discovery

RJ Mitte and Nik Sanchez are incredible role models who show the power of optimism and resilience. RJ Mitte, known for his key role in 'Breaking Bad,' has turned his personal experiences with cerebral palsy into a platform for advocacy and change, also serving as an activist and GAP model. Nik Sanchez, making history as the first actor with autism to portray a lead character with autism in 'The Rookie,' demonstrates how embracing one’s unique qualities can lead to impactful and serious roles. Their stories remind that challenges don’t define us - they inspire us to push boundaries and see endless possibilities. So, instead of dwelling on problems, let’s take a page from their book and focus on solutions and opportunities. Life is too short to cry over obstacles when we can overcome them with determination and hope. #inspiration #determination #rolemodel #possibility #solutions #opportunities #focus

https://lnkd.in/d_tXdn-X Rob Bernstein and Marcia discussed their backgrounds and how they ended up working together with autistic individuals, highlighting their different educational and professional paths. Rob, with a graduate degree from Columbia in Child Development, developed the Bernstein Method, which focuses on understanding children’s experiences rather than imposing theories on them. Marcia trained as a clinical psychologist, noticed patterns in children’s social skills, and found that helping them understand and think was more effective than instructing them on what to do. Both Marcia and Rob emphasized that traditional understandings of autism are flawed, noting that autistic individuals are often empathetic and socially interested, contrary to common stereotypes. They decided to collaborate after recognizing their shared philosophy and have co-authored works together, aiming to change perceptions and improve educational approaches for autistic individuals. #everythingneurodiversity #workingwithautism #educationapproaches #clinicalpsychology #understandingautism #debunkingmisconceptions#bernstein #autismadvocate #autismstrong #specialneedsfamily #adhdawareness #adhdsupport #autismlove #disabilityawareness #traumarecovery #abilitynotdisability #specialneedsparents #autismcommunity #autismjourney #specialneedschildren #robertbernstein #robbernstein #bernstein #bernsteinmethod

🔊🔊🔊QUALITY NEWS🔊🔊🔊 📖 For a range of perspectives on ABA service quality, check out the new book from Dr. Stephanie Peterson and colleagues, "Ethical Applied Behavior Analysis Models for Individuals Impacted by Autism". Highlights of this text are Dr. Peterson's chapters on "Hallmarks of High-Quality, Behavior Analytic Services" (see the tools at the end of this chapter for evaluating the 7 dimensions in your practice and assessing procedural fidelity); and a chapter by Eldridge & Peterson on the challenges facing the field of ABA service delivery. The latter offers readers an excellent account of how the field has evolved over the last 15 years or so and some of the implications. #NASQN #appliedbehavioranalysis #BCBA #ABA #RBT www.nasqn.org https://lnkd.in/gJ29X87E Stephanie Peterson

Behavior analysis has the potential to address so many critical areas of need beyond the artificial boundaries dictated by common funding sources. I’m privileged to know and learn from Claire Gallagher (Moore) CDP, BCBA, LBA, IBA, EIP who applies behavior analysis to support aging adults with neurocognitive impairments like dementia, as well as their caregivers. During our recent conversation on the In the Field podcast, Claire shared valuable insights on how we, as supervisors and leaders, can better prepare our trainees to expand their scope of competence into new areas of practice. Claire said: "In terms of building skills, I think the field has seen a significant conversation over the past 3 to 5 years around understanding the difference between scope of practice and scope of competence. This includes a focus on continuing education and increased supervision requirements to ensure higher-quality supervision for trainees during their fieldwork. There’s also been discussion around task list changes and coursework requirements, particularly what will be required for degrees. The core question is: Are we producing candidates who are qualified to step into areas where the science can be applied, but haven’t yet had the opportunity to explore?" This is one of the most pressing challenges we face in training new practitioners. Are we developing analysts limited to a fixed set of interventions, or are we equipping them with the pivotal skills needed to meaningfully apply the science in emerging areas of need?

I’m so honored and excited to have been invited on the In the Field: ABA Podcast with Sidekick Learning to talk about some introductions to Behavioral Gerontology and branching out in sub-specialty areas of behavior analysis! I loved this conversation and the space that Allyson Wharam has so intentionally created to foster further growth and development for BCBAs, RBTs, and trainees. It’s an exciting time as a behavior analyst to see the impact of how our work can support so many individuals across populations and areas. I can’t wait to see more BCBAs branch into these areas of support services and hope to see more colleagues on senior living community floors caring for our aging adults! Thanks Ally for inviting me in, I can’t wait to come back sometime soon! https://lnkd.in/eAnyvTgt
